Minister Park to Attend ADB Annual Meeting in Manila
MOSF head leads the Korean delegation to 2012 ADB Annual Meeting in Manila from May 2-5 and also to co-chair ASEAN+3 Meetings
Minister Park Jaewan of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance has a busy schedule ahead as he heads to Manila to attend the annual conference of the Asian Development Bank and the meeting of the Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors of ASEAN+3, also in Manila from May 2-5.
The minister will also attend the meeting with the finance ministers of China and Japan on May 3 to discuss strengthening financial cooperation with regard to international investments, particularly those among the three neighboring countries.
The Korean finance minister will co-chair the ASEAN+3 meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors scheduled for May 3 at the Diamond Hotel in Manila along with the finance minister of Cambodia, which will start with a working lunch at 12:30 p.m. The subjects for discussion at the meeting will include reviewing the economies of ASEAN countries and economic policies to search for financial cooperation among ASEAN member nations in an effort to strengthen the group.
The meeting will also issue a joint statement on the results and future moves of the ASEAN+3 nations. Minister Park is scheduled to attend a joint press conference following the meeting and give a briefing on the results of the meeting to journalists along with the Cambodian finance minister, especially regarding the plan on the expansion of CMIM, the introduction of a plan to prevent crises, and a plan to reform ABMI, among others. The Cambodian finance minister will introduce himself first and then Minister Park, who will also hold a Q&A session with the journalists.
The ADB Governors Roundtable will be attended by governors of the 12 director nations of ADB to take up such matters as the increasing imbalance among Asian nations. Each of the 12 governors will be given from four to five minutes to make speeches.
The subject of the keynote speeches will be on common tasks faced by Asian nations and measures to counter them with each speaker given from five to 10 minutes for their keynote speeches.
Minister Park is also scheduled to attend the ABMI 10th anniversary seminar and make a keynote speech to open the event as well as attend the Q&A session. The seminar will be divided into three sessions: the Opening Session, which will include opening remarks and keynote speeches by Minister Park and the central bank governor of Thailand; Policy Session, which will feature speeches by the Japanese finance minister and the central bank governor of Malaysia, among others, and a Q&A period, which will be presided over by Rhee Chang-yong, economist of ADS; and the Information Sharing Session in which civilian experts and ABMI officials will make speeches and hold a Q&A session.
The Korean delegation will include CEOs of key financial institutions such as President Lim Young-rok of KB Financial Group; Chairman Shin Chung-shik of NH Financial Holding Co.; President Yoon Man-ho of the KDB Financial Group; President Suh Jin-won of Shinhan Bank; President Kim Jong-jun of Hana Bank; President Yun Yong-ro of Korea Exchange Bank; Chairman Kim Yong-hwan of Korea Export-Import Bank; President Cho Jun-hee of the Industrial Bank of Korea, President Lee Ju-hyung of Suhyup Bank; President Ahn Taik-soo of the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund; and President Suh Jong-dae of Korea Housing Finance Corp.Gov. Kim Joong-soo of the Bank of Korea will also attend the ADB meeting as the deputy leader of the Korean delegation.
