Amkor Korea President Honored with $900 Mln Trade Tower Award

Amkor Technology Korea President Kim Joo-ho was presented with the $900 million Trade Tower award for exporting $922.49 million worth of IC assembly products in 2010, an 82.1 percent surge over the previous year.
Amkor Technology Korea is the successor of Anam Semiconductor, which pioneered the domestic semiconductor industry in 1968 and reestablished the semiconductor sector as a value-added one by applying its most advanced technological power of IC assembly and testing it had accumulated over 43 years.
Amkor Korea has been credited with contributing to the development of the national industry by localizing advanced technologies and boosting exports with the introduction of state-of-the-art semiconductor technologies. The company was recognized for exporting $100 million worth of exports in 1979. Amkor Korea paved the way for the development of the domestic semiconductor industry, prompting Korean semiconductor makers such as Samsung Electronics and Hynix Semiconductor to venture into the domestic chip industry and lay a solid foundation to make Korea a semiconductor powerhouse.
Amkor Korea, with a paid-in capital of 119.8 billion won and 6,300 employees, chalked up 1.328 trillion won in sales in 2010, 90 percent of which came from exports.
Amkor, headquartered in the United States, has 11 plants in five countries - China, the Philippines, Taiwan and Japan, which employ a combined 20,000 employees. Amkor, a strategic partner for 200 semiconductor, info-tech and electronics companies, is constantly expanding its business environs abroad.
