EWP Holds Road Show for Korean SMEs in Southeast Asia
Twenty-four SMEs participate in the exhibition covering the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia
Korea East-West Power Co. (EWP) held a 10-day road show that displayed the products of 24 Korean SMEs products in the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia starting June 29. The 2011 road show, the third since 2009, was jointly organized by EWP, Korea Western Power Co. (WP) and the Large & Small Business Cooperation Foundation to help Korean SMEs with price competitiveness and excellent quality explore the Southeast Asian electric power market.
The market exploration team, comprised of 24 SMEs, held a seminar and an explanation session with officials from each country's power authorities, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies and power equipment buyers. The participating companies held one-on-one negotiations with local company officials. The value of the negotiations amounted to a combined $215 million with an additional $80 million in verbal contracts.
The three Southeast Asian countries, now suffering from an electricity shortage, are expected to see their power plant demand surge in the years to come.
The participating Korean SMEs have a competitive edge by producing power equipment with excellent quality yet lower prices compared to their counterparts in advanced countries, and rising confidence in Korean companies will likely boost their exports. Lim Han-gyu, chief of EWP Business Headquarters, said, The first step in shared growth between large- and small-sized companies is each side recognizing the other side as a partner for its own success. The organizers will strive to aggressively publicize the excellence of Korean SMEs?products and ramp up the technological competitiveness of the Korean power industry.
EWP has implemented differentiated policies to support SMEs every year, including the localization of core technologies, market exploration of products from SMEs and the supporting of hiring youth manpower to promote shared growth between large- and small-sized companies. nw
