Korea Post Tops 2010 EMS Service Survey
Wins the Gold Level from the IPU for the fifth straight year

Korea Post, an affiliate of the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, has been presented with the coveted Gold Level, the top honor in the 2010 Express Mail Service (EMS) quality survey by the Universal Postal Union (UPU). This was the fifth consecutive year that Korea Post topped the quality survey of 152 EMS Cooperative members, the Korea Post administration said on May 12.
Korea Post earned high marks in such categories as the on-time delivery of mail and the on-time provision of transportation and delivery information.
In reality, Korea Post's winning of the latest award was owed to the postal administration's enhancing of successful deliveries by sending real-time information through an advanced IT informatization system called PostNet and sharing real-time information on mail items for customs clearance with customs authorities to cut down on clearance time.
EMS clients can log on to Korea Post's website, www.ePost.go.kr, to track all procedures, including the acceptance and delivery of EMS items, and receive the information on their deliveries via the Short Message Service (SMS). They can also request EMS services without visiting post offices by calling 1588-1300 or logging on to www.ePost.go.kr.
Express Mail Service (EMS) is an international express postal service offered by postal administration members of the UPU, which created the EMS Cooperative in 1998 within the framework of the IPU, a specialized agency of the United Nations, to promote the harmonization and development of postal services worldwide. Currently, EMS is offered by 154 of the 191 IPU member countries?postal authorities as an integral part of their normal postal services. Seven additional countries have arrangements to deliver EMS items.
Korea Post's EMS charges are cheaper compared to the private sector's express mail services, and customers who send large amounts of items abroad and exporters are given a maximum of 30 percent discount to cut down on international logistics costs.
Korea Post has signed a mail guarantee deal with the United States, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Australia, the United Kingdom, Spain, France and Singapore to meet clients?demand for sending express mail items in a safe manner. Under the agreement, KT gives a refund to all EMS charges clients paid in the case mail items fail to make it on time.
An independent auditor measures the express delivery performance of all international EMS operators. EMS Performance Awards are based on postal operator's performance, including service performance and tracking. Gold, Silver or Bronze certificates are awarded to EMS Cooperative members depending on their yearly performance. These EMS award winners are recorded in the EMS Cooperative? Hall of Fame.
Since its creation, 154 postal administrations have joined the EMS Cooperative, representing over 74 percent of EMS operators worldwide. In addition, the EMS Cooperative has negotiated EMS delivery contracts on behalf of seven countries?EMS delivery agents. nw
