Samsung Electronics sees global reservation orders for Galaxy S2 surpass the 3 million unit barrier



Models display Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S2 that made its debt in Korea recently.

 

Samsung Electronics' strategic smartphone Galaxy S2 has enjoyed popularity in the domestic smartphone market as more than 120,000 units of the latest version were sold across the nation in the first three days after its release on April 29, a quantum leap compared to the Galaxy S that preceded it.
SK Telecom sold about 65,000 Galaxy S2 units during the three-day period between April 29 and May 2, followed by KT, which sold about 40,000 units and LG U+, which sold about 15,000 units. It translates to some 40,000 units sold per day, or one unit every two seconds £­more than twice that of the Galaxy S, which logged 50,000 units in the first three days after its release on the market.
Business sources said the tremendous popularity of the Galaxy S2, riding on word of a delayed release of the iPhone 5 and the simultaneous hype of the three Korean telecom providers, is expected to prevail for the time being.
A KT official said KT? Galaxy S2 version has augmented its navigation function, one of the weak points among KT? handsets, and has increased user satisfaction with the addition of such content as olleh TV Now.
An SK Telecom official said the company saw its Galaxy S2 sales higher than originally expected due to the three telecom providers' simultaneous release of Galaxy versions.
An LG U+ official said LG U+? Galaxy S2 yielded better performance due to price competitiveness.
Now that sales of Galaxy S2 have exceeded its expectations at an initial stage, some analysts project that Samsung Electronics will revise upward its selling target of 14 million Galaxy S2 units. Samsung Electronics Mobile Business President Shin Jong-kyun told a media day ceremony marking the release of the Galaxy S2 that Samsung Electronics has set its sales target for the Galaxy S2s at more than the 10 million units the Galaxy S recorded.
Samsung Electronics announced that global reservation orders for the Galaxy S2 has hit the 3 million unit barrier, the biggest among ordinary cellular and smart phones that have been unveiled so far this year, foretelling the emergence of a global sensation following a flood of orders from telecom providers abroad. Global reservation orders are expected to rise as the latest of the Galaxy family is to be supplied to about 140 telecom providers in some 120 countries on a step-by-step basis.
Following an initial surge of the Galaxy S2 domestically, Samsung Electronics plans to unveil the Galaxy S2 on the European market, one of the biggest global markets, within this month.
Galaxy S2 highlights such chic features as a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen, 1.2GHz dual-code processor, HSPA+21Mbps network and an 8.9mm thin design, promising to be thinner, lighter and faster that its predecessor. Major news outlets gave rave reviews, presenting Galaxy S2? strong points.
The U.S. IT web magazine Engadget applauded Galaxy S2 as not only one of the best Android phones, but also one of the best smartphones. The IT magazine SlashGear stressed that Galaxy S2? 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen is the most advanced technology in the OLED panel segment.
Samsung Electronics officials said Samsung Electronics would do its utmost to ensure a smooth global supply of the latest Galaxy version.
