Since 1993, when it proclaimed its unlimited responsibility toward the environment, AMOREPACIFIC has redoubled efforts to remove environmentally-harmful factors in all areas of its operations ranging from research and production to distribution, consumption and disposal. The company has also built an environment management system in accordance with global standards and committed to the development of eco-friendly raw materials and production technology and the realization of green marketing initiatives through the development of eco-friendly products. AMOREPACIFIC is aggressively striving to cope with climate change by taking such steps as their participation in the carbon footprint labeling drive and the application of low-temperature production processes.
AMOREPACIFIC has been continuously striving to conduct social contribution activities to fulfill its commitment to social responsibility. In particular, the company has conducted such volunteering activities as the ¡°Make-up Your Life Campaign¡± and ¡°Pink Ribbon Campaign¡± covering issues ranging from women¡¯s health and a beautiful life to a wider scope of their self-realization.
Last September, AMOREPACIFIC became the first Korean beauty and healthcare provider to be listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World Enlarged Index in the 2010/2011 DJSI evaluation. The company was listed on the DJSI Asia/Pacific and the DJSI Korea. In particular, AMOREPACIFIC was selected as a global leader in the personal possessions category comprised of cosmetics and lifestyle goods producers, beating out globally-recognized rival companies. The company was given higher scores in such areas as the provision of support to subcontractors for building low-carbon management systems, eco-products purchasing, ¡°Beautiful Purchases,¡± a kind of fair trading, and other things to brace for the future of cooperative firms and regional communities on top of the development of excellent products and continuous investments in R&D.
AMOREPACIFIC has been building environment management systems in accordance with global standards to develop eco-friendly products. In December 2008, the ¡°Mise en Scene Full-shining Moisture Shampoo¡± was the industry¡¯s first product certified with carbon footprint labeling in Korea. Currently a total of 14 items have since obtained carbon footprint labeling certification. The company has built greenhouse gas emission reductions systems in all areas, including the manufacturing of products, transportation, education and support.
AMOREPACIFIC has been proactively participating in greenhouse gas emissions reduction activities by building GHG inventories in accordance with the guidelines issued in 2007 by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
GHG CUT DRIVE - AMOREPACIFIC Corp. has obtained ¡°Greenhouse Gases (GHG) Inventory Verification Statement¡±, which was awarded by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), an international institution specialized in GHG verification, for the first time in the history of Korean cosmetic industry. The awarding ceremony for the statement was held at AMOREPACIFIC Skin Care Value Center located in Yongin, Gyeonggi province, Korea on Feb. 23.
The ¡°GHG Inventory¡± refers to a general management system to analyze and report any GHG emission generated from business activities. This system helps companies to transparently and correctly share the information on actual GHG emission with a variety of interested parties including government, customers and employees.
In 2007, AMOREPACIFIC has already established its own GHG inventory in compliance with an IPCC Guideline, an international standard on GHG emission. In addition, AMOREPACIFIC has organized a GHG CFT to deploy a series of activities to reduce GHG emission since 2008, and has implemented a system of GHG reduction activities as a part of sustainable management since 2009.
Such a variety of activities and efforts run by AMOREPACIFIC have provided a solid foundation of this statement awarded. In particular, ¡°DNV¡± is the GHG verification specialist authorized by UN for the first time all over the world, which adds more reliability and objectivity to the statement. At the awarding ceremony, Shim Sang-bae, Executive Vice President of SCM in AMOREPACIFIC, stated ¡°Based on this award of statement, we will try more to realize a harmonious business activities with environment, and fulfill the high environmental expectations of our customers.¡±
Meanwhile, AMOREPACIFIC has rolled out various activities across different fields including production, transportation, education and support with a view to reduce GHG emission. In December 2008, ¡°Mise-en-scene Pearl Shining Moisture Shampoo¡± achieved Carbon Labeling Certification by the Ministry of Environment (MOE) for the first time in Korean domestic cosmetics and living utilities. Now, AMOREPACIFIC has been certified with its 14 products. Moreover, AMOREPACIFIC adopts idling control system and air spoiler that are designed for transport and delivery vehicles in logistics. Furthermore, AMOREPACIFIC implements green driving certification system and provides differentiated incentives for employees based on their green driving performance. Provided with good recognitions of these activities, AMOREPACIFIC was selected as ¡°the Best Green Traffic Workplace¡± by the Metropolitan Air Quality Management Office in December 2010.
AMOREPACIFIC plans to implement more refined and strengthened GHG emission reduction program. The company also continues to propagate and reinforce GHG emission reduction activities into its partner companies through more active supports such as energy diagnosis and transfer of clean production technology.
