Korea Iron & Steel Association (KOSA) Chairman Chung Joon-yang said in his speech at a New Year's meeting of those in the steel industry at the POSCO Center in Seoul on Jan. 13, "The Korean steel industry will have to find solutions to the pending three tasks facing the industry this year - global management, environment-oriented management and shared growth."
The KOSA chairman, also chairman of POSCO, stressed that this year's foremost task is unit price management, which is gaining importance as the global steel materials industry has shifted to a seller's market. As competition caused by a rush for the expansion of steel facilities mounts, Korean steelmakers must build a global business foundation more than ever before, so they have to kill two birds with one stone воиг lowering unit price and ensuring quality - by devoting themselves to exploring and developing overseas resources while continuously investing in innovative products and technology processes.
He also noted that as the environment emerges as an essential factor in determining corporate value and corporate competitiveness, the Korean steel industry will have to minimize pollution emissions by innovating the steel-making processes and strive to spearhead the low-carbon, green growth paradigm by making the most of opportunities to tap new and renewable energy and environmentally-friendly businesses.
