Incheon International Airport wins ASQ Special Recognition Award from ACI for helping to upgrade airport services around the world
Incheon International Airport won the ASQ Special Recognition Award from the Airports Council International (ACI) for its role in upgrading services at airports around the world on Nov. 3, the airport said recently.
The airport said ACI specially created the award to present it to the international airport in Korea for its achievement at having been named the top airport in terms of customer services for five years in a row in a study conducted by ACI and for its integral role in the process of helping upgrade airport services worldwide.
ACI members are made up of 1,700 airports in 180 countries. The Incheon airport has greatly helped to boost the national prestige of Korea by winning an award from such a large global organization, the airport said.
President Lee Chae-wook in accepting the award at a ceremony held in Hamilton, Bermuda, said it is the result of the Incheon airport family doing their best to provide reformed and segregated services to customers who were not satisfied with the previous level of services. From now on, he added, the airport will continue to offer better services in line with its upgraded international position in a way to further boost the airportĄŻs competitive advantage.
The CEO said the Incheon airport will continue to work on the application of IT to its high-tech facilities to shorten the time for entry and departure procedures and will offer new and segregated services such as facilities for cultural performances and rest and commercial facilities in harmony in such a way as to upgrade its services even more.
Since its opening in 2001, some 4,700 airport people from around the world have visited the airport to learn its operations and facilities. Its management know-how is being applied by Arvil airport in Iraq, Vladivostok airport in Russia, Maktan Cebu airport in the Philippines and others.
Since 2007, the airport opened its training facilities on airport management and operation for airport people from emerging countries. So far, the facility provided training to some 700 airport people from those countries, and this year alone, some 280 airport officials from Ethiopia, Cambodia, Samoa, Mauritius, Indonesia, Nepal and others received training at the facility.
In reflection of Incheon airportĄŻs higher ranking among airports in the world, it has been able to bring various international meetings on airports to Korea. In March 2011, the Route Asia Forum, a conference of airport experts from around the world under the ICAO, will be held, and in May and June, ACIĄŻs fund seminar and the Asia-Pacific airport conference will also be held in Seoul. In 2014, the TIACA exhibition and ACIĄŻs Asia-Pacific conference are scheduled. The ACI World Conference, which is to be participated in by its 1,700 members from 180 countries, will also be held in Seoul for sure.
The Incheon International Airport Corp. promises to maintain the airportĄŻs high international image and to continue to work to attract large international meetings on airport related issues to Korea in the days ahead. nw
