Development Issues on Major G20 Seoul Summit Agenda

The first G20 summit to take up issues ensuring strong, sustainable and balanced growth

Sakong Il, chairman of the Presidential Committee for the G20 Seoul Summit, said, ¡°It is important for the private and public sectors to nourish the capability to achieve sustainable growth, and the introduction of a new development framework based on growth and resilience will be discussed as development issues of the G20 Seoul Summit, to be held in Seoul from Nov. 11-12.¡±
He made the remark while delivering a keynote speech at the G20 High-Level Development Conference held at the Lotte Hotel on Oct. 13. ¡°It is the first time the G20 Seoul Summit will take up development issues as major agenda items ,¡± he said.
The chairman continued, ¡°This approach will contribute to creating the combined demand of the global economy through the economic development of developing countries, conforming to the G20¡¯s goal: the Framework for Strong, Sustainable, and Balanced Growth.¡±
¡°Korea hopes to act a bridge between developed and developing countries, contributing to making G20 development issues a success,¡± he said.
He continued on saying that it is essential for the new development framework to be adopted by the G20 Seoul Summit to ensure sustainable and balanced growth, and the G20 summit¡¯s discussions of development issues will complement the United Nations¡¯ Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Meanwhile, Korea is devoting itself to gathering G20 non-member countries¡¯ views by engaging in brisk outreach activities. nw
