Gold Medal for Chmn. Kang
Construction Day honors Wooyang Gigun Ceo for his contribution for construction industry
Chairman Kang Sok-dae of Wooyang Gigun Co. won the Industrial Merit Gold Medal during the ceremony for the 20th Construction Day held on July 15 this year at Construction Hall in Seoul.
The citation for his achievement said he has made a great contribution to making what the nation¡¯s semiconductor industry has become as a major force in the development of the export sector in Korea by specializing in the construction of semiconductor chip plants with the company¡¯s unique technologies. Chairman Kang was also given credit for leading his construction firm to do a great job in improving the residential conditions and the development of the construction industry by taking charge of the installation of various machinery at large public buildings and residential structures in the country during the 35 years of his company¡¯s operations.
In the past five years, in particular, Kang led his company to develop new technologies related to the construction of the clean rooms for the production of LCD and PDP, helping to cut production costs of those electronic parts by more than 40 percent, making chip exports very competitive. He also led his company to develop for the construction of Super Clean Room¡¯s core control equipment to spur the development of NANO technology and also develop System Ceiling technologies to reduce costs by 25 percent to save foreign exchange and lead the government¡¯s green growth strategy.
Kang also was lauded for preventing accidents at his company¡¯s work sites by undertaking various prevention measures before hand through transparent management based on the charger for ethical management, helping his company to be selected as an excellent SME and as a superior venture firm with excellent technology development and as a technology-intensive firm by the Small and Medium Business Corp.
As chairman of Korea Mech. Const. Contractors Association, Kang set up the practice to dispatch construction quality inspectors to construction sites in a bid to improve the quality of construction in the country. From 1997, he made an arrangement with Seoul National University of Technology to train construction manpower to produce 40 bachelors of arts in construction annually at SeoulTech. SeoulTech set up two special courses, one for management and the other for experts on machinery installation to improve the quality of construction companies in general.
Kang also formed the machinery installation council linking academy, industry, technicians and builders and operated it to make a large contribution for the development of the installation construction sector and helped pave the way for the installation construction firms advancement into overseas by visiting China over seven times to exchange memos on cooperation on installation construction between Korea and China.
He also was given credit for parliamentary initiation of the law on machinery installation construction and management in 2009. He also helped the cooperation between main and sub contractors by renovating various regulations on construction systems and unfair practices on subcontracting.
He rapidly understood that digitalization is a key to enhancing competitiveness in the 21st century and played a key role in setting up a joint purchasing company ¡°One Can Network¡± by persuading a number of large installation construction companies and got the approval from the Ministry of Knowledge Economy for the company to act as a main company in building B2B network in 2001. The company later standardized the installation construction materials numbering over 100,000, helping the government project for building an electronic government. Kang¡¯s effort saved over 100 billion won in expenses for the industry and made the level of the electronic operation of SMEs in Korea tops in the world, enhancing the national competitiveness of Korea. nw
