Getting Ready for Busan ITS Congress
Various events geared to mark Korea as strong ITS country through the global gathering of 30,000 participants
The Organizing Committee for the 17th Busan ITS World Congress in cooperation with the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs and Busan Metropolitan City is getting ready for the global event with a number of scheduled events including ministerial meetings, exhibitions and other official events.
The ITS World Congress, which is called the ¡°Traffic Olympic,¡± provides the venue for the largest exhibition and academic meetings on the intelligent traffic control sector in the world, acting as a forum for businesses in the high-tech traffic sector, academics and related government sectors to present various new technologies in traffic control and to display new products.
The Busan gathering will have some 30,000 people from 80 countries participating in some 250 meetings, visit over 1,000 booths and studying some 1,000 papers presented at the global event.
The Busan ITS event also has events other than exhibitions and academic meetings, such as the presentations of new technologies, tours of jobsites and cultural experiences, diverse in nature, for the interest of the participants.
For the first time in the event¡¯s history, transportation and road ministers from some 20 countries will be invited to attend a ministerial round table and present their country¡¯s policies on transportation and road maintenance and construction for discussions during the event.
New technologies related to traffic realities will be presented at Bexco and other high-tech venues in Haeundae and areas surrounding the beachfront so that the participants will be able to watch them with ease and safety.
Korea is hoped to emerge as a strong Smart Green Traffic country, showing off its mighty ITS technologies at the ITS Congress, taking advantage of the meeting as a chance to make its low-carbon, green growth a national brand.
The global event is projected to generate 70 billion won worth of productivity in the Busan area and 200 billion won worth of added value.
CEO Lieu Chullho of the Korea Expressway Corp., who also heads the Organizing Committee for the Busan ITS Congress, said this is the second time the global event will be held in Korea and the participation of automakers and communication and ITS-related companies under a pan-national movement was needed to make the event a great success. nw
