Korea-UAE Ties, 30 years, Evolves into Strategic Partnership

The UAE Embassy holds an anniversary reception in Seoul; Korean culture events also take place in Abu Dhabi

Korea and the United Arab Emirates celebrated the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries with fanfare events in Seoul and Abu Dhabi. The UAE Embassy in Korea hosted an anniversary event at the Lotte Hotel on June 15, which attracted a large throng of dignitaries, including Minister of Strategy and Finance Yoon Jeung-hyun, representatives, diplomats and representatives from other walks of life.
In particular, in a gesture of showing solidarity between the two countries, Namgoong Min, president of Korea Post, presented a collection of stamps being issued under the joint stamp issuance by the two countries to UAE Ambassador Abdulla Al-Maainah.
Korean cultural events, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Korean Federation of Contractors, also took place in Abu Dhabi and received rave reviews from the UAE people.
In his speech at the Seoul reception, MOSF Minister Yoon said, “In the course of 30 years, our friendship has grown with the concerted efforts and has remained strong ever since. The journey we mad together come down to Korea awarded the nuclear power plant deal last year.”
“The transformation will present a boundless opportunity for the two countries to take on the stage as global leaders. Both countries are ready to play in full gear as gateways to lead the Asia and the Middle East to success and prosperity.”
“Korea will build upon the momentum by working together with the UAE leaders and people in the post-oil era in their national development. We can make it heart-to-heart,” he said.
In his welcoming message, the UAE ambassador said, “We are happy today that the relations between the two counties have achieved the strategic partnership level.”
“Thanks to the rational policies of the leaders of the two countries and their plans for the bilateral ties to reach this level.” “We wish the friendly people of the UAE and Koreas more opulence and the countries more progress and prosperity,” he added. nw
