Korean Foreign Minister delivers a commemorative speech

The Embassy of the Russian Federation hosted a reception on June 11 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. About 500 people from the Korean and Russian sides as well as other foreign diplomatic officials attended the event.
Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Yu Myung-hwan said in his commemorative speech, “It is a great pleasure for me to note that this year also marks the 20th anniversary of Korea and Russia relations. And throughout the year, various cultural events will be held to celebrate the two decades of our ties.”
He continued, “During these years, our bilateral ties have witnessed remarkable growth. And particularly in 2008, the bilateral relationship between the two countries was upgraded to a strategic cooperative partnership. Since then, both our countries have worked closely together to further strengthen our cooperation. I am pleased to see that our bonds of cooperation are taking ever more diverse forms.
“Korea’s expanding investment in Russia is clear evidence of our deepening ties. Many Korean companies in Russia, including Hyundai, Samsung, LG and Daewoo, have proven to be reliable partners, manufacturing made-in-Russia products and creating jobs in the Russian society.
“With President Medvedev’s visit, along with the various cultural events commemorating the 20 years of our ties, I am confident that this year will prove to be a milestone in the history of our two countries’ relations.”
In his welcoming speech, Russian Amb. Konstantin V. Vnukov said, “Nowadays, modern Russia and the Republic of Korea are tied together by 20-years of fruitful cooperation. Both of our states work actively to lead mutual relations to the level of strategic partnership. We have all the preconditions for the achievement of this goal. There are no contradictions or disputes between us. We cooperate successfully in all areas of politics, economics and culture. Our interaction is carried out in the sea, on land and even in space. It is important to underline that our cooperation is not directed against third countries. It is aimed at the promotion of peace and a happy life, not only of Russians and Koreans, but of all the people of Northeast Asia.” nw
