2010 Shanghai Expo ¡®Day of Korea¡¯ Official Event Takes Place

An official event ¡°Day of Korea¡± in commemoration of the Korea Week (May 27-30) for the 2010 Shanghai Expo was held at the Expo Center in the venue of the Shanghai Expo on May 26.
Some 200 Korean delegates headed by Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yu In-chon and 100 Chinese officials attended the meeting to announce the beginning of the Korea Week and wish a success.
The official event kicked off with a press conference by the two sides who signed a visitors¡¯ book and exchanged gifts ahead of congratulatory addresses and performances. The delegates had luncheon together and looked around the pavilions of Korean and Japanese enterprises. They also took part in a dinner bouquet.
In addition to the official event, the Korea Week was embroiled with royal dress show, traditional music performance, fan dancing, samulnori, nanta and taekwondo with the goal of Advertising Korean¡¯s unique cultural assets.
The Korea Music Festival slated for May 30 at the Culture Center (accommodating 18,000 seats), to be emceed by Korean PR ambassador Jang Na-ra will feature traditional music and dancing performances in the first quarter, to be followed by performances by Korean hallyu stars like Superjunior, Boa, f(x) and Kangta and other Chinese entertainers in the second quarter, in a show of friendly relations between Korea and China.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also plans to hold a meeting of directors in charge of tourism affairs for local governments in Shanghai on May 27 for discussion of ways to further induce foreign tourists for the expo and promote tourism cooperation and exchanges among provinces of the two countries.
In the meantime, Minister Yu plans to attend the WTTC Summit to be held in Beijing on May 27 after attending the Korea Day event for briefing the participants on the ways of ensuring sustainable growth of tourism industries while singing an MOU between Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the WTTC. nw
