Seminar on Future Vision for Financial Industry in Post-Crisis Era

Prominent experts from Korea and abroad will speak on the next takeoff of Korean banking and finance

An international seminar on the future vision of the Korean financial industry in the post-financial crisis era will take place in Seoul next month with prominent financial experts from Korean and abroad participating.
Titled ¡°Future Vision for Korea¡¯s Financial Industry: Takeoff in the Post-Crisis Era,¡± the seminar will be held at the Lotte Hotel in downtown Seoul on Feb. 3. It will be hosted by the Presidential Council for Future and Vision (PCFV), the Ministry of Strategy and Finance (MOSF) and the Financial Services Commission (FSC). The seminar will be organized by the Korea Institute of Finance (KIF) and Korea Capital Markets Institute (KCMI).
Organizers said the world is gradually emerging from the global financial crisis and is showing signs of recovery, and the Korean economy is said to have recovered at the fastest pace among OECD nations.¡±Driven by the momentum of the recent crisis, new changes are expected to be on the way for the global financial system. We in Korea must leverage these changes as a stepping-stone toward a new take off of our financial industry. We will feature prominent experts from Korea and abroad, as well as arrange a lively and active discussion,¡± they said.
During an opening ceremony, PCFV Chairman Kwak Seung-jun will give the opening remarks, while Rep. Kim Young-sun, chairman of the National Assembly National Policy Committee, will deliver a congratulatory address. MOSF Minister Yoon Jeung-hyun and FSC Chairman Chin Dong-soo will each give a keynote speech.
Session I: ¡°Resigning the Financial System for Storage Financial Competitiveness¡± will be moderated by KIF President Kim Tae-joon. The presenters of the session will be Steven M. Butters, partner of the Global Financial Services Industry, Deloitte & Touche LLP, who will speak about¡±Direction for the New Global Financial System and Its Implications¡±; Shin Jae-yoon, deputy minister for international affairs at the MOSF, who will speak about ¡°Ways for Korea to Respond to the New Global Financial System. including the G-20,¡±; and Kim Joo-hyun, secretary-general of the FSC, who will speak about¡±Financial Regulatory Reform for Financial System Standardization.¡±
Brian J. Brille, president of the Bank of America Merrill Lynch, will give a special address at luncheon.
Session II: ¡°Ways to Strengthen Competitiveness of Korea¡¯s Financial Industry¡± will be moderated by Kim Hyoung-tae, president of the KCMI. The presenters of the session will be Park Jae-ha, vice president of the KIF, who will speak about¡±Korea¡¯s Banking Industry: Currently Developments and Future Strategies¡±; Cho Seong-hoon, vice president of the KCMI, who will speak about¡±The Role of the Capital Markets for Korea¡¯s Economic Future¡±; and Min Euoo-sung, chairman & CEO of KDB Group, who will speak about¡± Financial Institution Growth Strategies through M&A.¡±. nw
