Gathering of Robot People
Seven meritorious robot industry people and firms honored with awards and citations at annual event
"The Night of Robot Men and Korea Robot Grand Award¡± took place on Dec. 3 at Cosmos Hall of the 63 City in Yeouido, Seoul, with some 250 people from the robot industry and related government officials in attendance including Vice Minister Rim Chae-min of the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, and Rep. Chung Jang-sun, chairman of the National Assembly Knowledge Economy Committee.
At the event, seven people received awards and citations in recognition of their contribution to strengthening competitive power of the robot industry and six companies for making great contribution to the robot industry by developing excellent robotic products.
The presidential citation, the top award went to Oh Joon-ho, professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) for developing Hubo, the first humanoid robot in the country, making Korea the only second country in the world to have developed such robot in the world.
The Prime Minister¡¯s citation went to Managing Director Bae Jin-keun of Ucon System Co., and the Ministerial Citation was received by Professor Kim Myung-sok of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Senior Research Staff Kyung Jin-ho of Korea Machinery Research Institute, Professor Cho Hei-kyung of Hansung University, Senior Research Staff Lee Chung-sop of Korea Rotem Co. and Head of the Future Team of the Electronics Daily? seven in all got the citations.
The presidential award in the Intelligent-Type robot Technology Grand Award sector that selects the Best Robot Product of 2009 was presented to the Robtiz Co.(President Kim Byung-soo), the developer of the Actuator Exclusively for Robots.
The Prime Minister¡¯s Award went to Dodam System Co.(President Chang Myung-gwang).
The event was the first one since the merger of the Night of Robot Industry People hosted by the old Ministry of Industry and Resources and the U-Robot Grand Award hosted by the old Ministry of Information, a very significant one as it meant the chemical union of all those involved with the robot industry following the integration of the two events. nw
