Bronze Medal for V.Chmn. Lee

Honor recognizes Baeksan OPC vice chmn. Lee’s contribution to growth of drum printer firm to be No.1 in world

Vice Chairman Lee Beom-hyong of Baeksan OPC Co. captured the Industrial Merit Bronze Tower medal at the 46th Trade Day ceremony held on Nov. 30 at COEX, southern Seoul.
Baeksan OPC is a maker of drum printers which has dealings with over 400 companies in some 70 countries in the world as a result of the company’s 10-year long research on drum printers, although the company was set up only 15 years ago.
The company has become a dominant one in the area of drum printers in the world outpacing such early starters in the business as Mitsubishi Chemical and Fuji Electric. The company now shares from 60 to 70 percent of drum printers market in Japan.
The company’s total exports in the first half amounted to 33.8 billion won of which 19 percent or 6.4 billion won was shipped to Japan and the company’s total operating profit of 6.2 billion won with 3.6 billion won or 59 percent coming from its exports to Japan.
Baeksan OPC continues to be the dominant maker of drum after market in the world and the company will not stop here, but continue to carry on with its research on the drum printers to not only cut costs, but also contribute to environmental protection.
Vice Chairman Lee has been doing his best to teach young CEOs in the county his know-how on how to crack the Japanese market, which he got during his 15 years of successes and failures in business, especially, in cracking the Japanese market. He currently working with the North Chungcheong Province branch of the Korea International Trade Association to set up a joint program to teach young CEOs who want to export goods to Japan.
Lee was born in 1933. During the Korean War, he joined the army as college student and retired from the active service in 1974 as lieutenant colonel. In 1994, he joined Baeksan OPC as a founding member and played a key role in the company’s huge stride to become a leading drum printer maker in the world. nw
