Pres. Kwon wins Gold Medal on Trade Day for his contribution to the IT industry by boosting exports of LCD and technology Nov. 30

President Kwon Young-soo of LG Display Co. clinched the Industrial Merit Gold Tower medal at the 46th Trade Day ceremony held on Nov. 30 at COEX in Samsung-dong, southern Seoul, in confirmation of his achievements in the IT area, expanding exports of IT products, timely investments, creation of jobs, the development of new technologies, and maximizing productivity under his management philosophy of ¡°live and let live¡± during his career spanning over three decades in the industry.
He always believed in consideration for others and beating maximum challenge as his motto in running the company whose products include LCD panels for TV and monitors and their exports amounted to $15 billion in 2008, compared to $2.1 billion in 2000 with the company¡¯s global market share rising to 25.4 percent in the first half of this year help boosting Korea¡¯s LCD market share in the world to over 50 percent. Korea¡¯s LCD panel makers continue to upstage their rivals in overseas market to expand their global market share.
Kwon took over the helm of management of the deficit-ridden company in 2007 and turned the company around to record 1.5 trillion won in profit in the first year as the CEO of the firm, which sales 90 percent of its products overseas. He made frequent trips overseas to lead sales of the company¡¯s LCD panels, true to his emphasis on jobsite management always helps.
Kwon continuously pushes the company to expand its global market share, despite the global economic recession gripping the world. As the LCD production lines need an enormous amount of investment and it has to be timely to be successful. In March, the company plunked down 2.5 trillion won in fresh investments in the production facilities for 8th generation LCD panels, hiring 1,600 additional workers at the company¡¯s plant in Paju, Gyeonggi Province. In May, the company invested 1.3 trillion won in production facilities for the 6th generation LCD panels its Gumi plant in South Gyeongsang Province, employing 1,500 new workers for the new LCD panel production lines.
LG Display has made phenomenal advanced in the development of new technologies for LCD panel securing 2,524 cases of intelligent property rights for its new technologies, tops in the world. The new technologies include the IPS (In-Plane Switching) producing a LED backlight LCD, the thinnest in the world; LCD for sun beam and other green products. The company also has the technologies for the production of E-paper, and plans to develop the technologies for 3D LCD to continue to maintain its top position in LCD technologies.
LG Display also cooperated with its vendors on the development of technologies to localize the production of LCD production equipment and provided them with technologies to maximize their production along with management know-how in pursuance of joint growth.
The company also had done a lot for the local economy of Paju by setting up a LCD cluster on a land 1.35 million pyeong wide and also for vendors to build plants, for the development of the northern part of Geyonggi Province and the national competitive strength.
LG Display Co., Ltd., a leading innovator of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) technology, announced the world¡¯s first commercial launch of 3D LCD panel boasting full HD resolution.
The new product is a 23-inch 3D monitor LCD panel for use with shutter glasses that delivers full HD resolution. It offers picture quality that is almost twice as crisp as HD 3D displays currently available in the market.
The panel adopts the company¡¯s proprietary technologies such as ¡°high performance 3D exclusive controller¡± capable of processing more than twice as much image data as other HD 3D LCDs and ¡°copper bus line¡± to improve on the resolution and picture quality. In addition, the panel is able to reproduce both 2D and 3D images, meaning that users can switch back and forth from 2D and 3D modes.
Although full HD 3D images have been developed for contents such as video games, movies and animations, 3D display products with full HD resolution were unavailable in the market. The commercial launch of LG Display¡¯s full HD 3D LCD panel is expected to help to boost development of high resolution 3D contents while allowing users to view true-to-life 3D images.
