The 2009 KAA Annual Conference took place from Oct. 20-22

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yu In-chon told the ¡°2009 Adverting Night¡± on Oct. 22 his ministry plans to implement policies to promote the development of the domestic advertising industry.
In his commemorative message, Minister Yu stressed that his ministry plans to innovate diverse irrational conditions and practices so that ad agencies that have no capital and are understaffed but have creativity can produce advertisements.
About 500 people in the Korean advertising industry got together for the 2009 Korea Advertising Association (KAA) Annual Conference organized by the KAA under the catchphrase ¡°Free Communication, Free Markets, Free Choice¡± from Oct. 22-24 at the Chosun Hotel in downtown Seoul.
The participants of the event included Minister Yu and other representatives from government, major advertising companies, media organizations, academia and other circles. Also present were LG Electronics Executive Vice President Chung Sang-kuk, concurrently chairman of the KAA Steering Committee; Chang Sung-ji, executive director of Kumho-Asiana Airlines; Sung Jang-kyung, vice president of Namyang; Kim Man-soo, vice president of Daelim Industrial Co.; Chu Hong, vice president of Daesang; Sohn Young-shin, vice president of Korea Life Insurance; Lee Hwa-suk, vice president of Korean Air; Park Jung-kyu, executive director of Dongsuh Co.; Lee Jun-hee, general manager of Dong-A Pharmaceutical Co.; Kim Byung-soo, executive director of Doosan; Chang Byung-soo, executive director of Lotte; Kim Yoo-taek, director of Lotte Confectionary Co.; Lim Dae-ki, executive director of Samsung Group; Hang Kwang-sup, vice president of Samsung Electronics; Yang Chang-soo, executive vice president of Amore Pacific; Kim Sang-young, executive director of POSCO; Kim Bong-kyung, executive vice president of Hyundai Motor-Kia Motors; Lee Kwang-suk, vice president of Hyundai Development Co.; Eum Sung-ryong, executive director of Hyosung; Shin Dong-hwi, vice president of CJ; Kim Myung-hwan, executive vice president of GS Caltex; Lee Gil-ju, executive director of KT Corp.; Kwon Oh-yong, executive vice president of SK Group; Kang Shin-ki, vice president of S-Oil; and Kim Ei-hwan, KAA executive vice chairman.
Min Byung-joon, chairman of the Korea Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC), was presented with the KAA Advertising Award of the Year during Advertising Night on Oct. 22 in recognition for his contributions to advance the Korean advertising industry. He served as the KAA chairman during the period between 1995 and 2008.
Singer-entertainer Lee Seung-ki and actress Son Dambi each were honored with the Best Model Award.
The annual conference began with the Public Relations Strategy Session, the first part of a three-day seminar series, on Oct. 20, followed by the Media Strategy Session on Oct. 21 and the Brand Strategy Session on Oct. 22.
The speakers of the first session were Choi Soon-suk, senior producer of the Korea Broadcasting System¡¯s ¡°KBS Consumer Whistleblower¡± program, who spoke about consumer whistleblower programs and responses to corporate crises; Min Byung-kwan, managing editor of Joonang Daily News, who touched on change in newspaper journalism and corporate crisis management options; and Lee Yoon-shik, chief of data and information of the search portal Naver, who spoke about ways of utilizing business marketing via the Internet. Choi said strategies to place refined, but not exaggerated advertisements should be in place to meet consumers¡¯ high-standard needs. Min said his daily¡¯s format has been redesigned into one in which its style can be more compact, with its contents having impact and effect. Many speakers concurred that consumer, advertiser and media circles have undergone tremendous changes with integrated strategies to focus on advertising efficiency to consumers and media organizations fighting fierce survival battles in an era of ¡°survival, digital & convergence.¡± nw
