In the meantime, In May with the award of a contract to build marine facilities of the new refinery at Mina Al-Zour in Kuwait, HEDC has obtained 13 orders in 6 different countries including the recent award of U$ 2 billion power plant project and U$ 980 million fertilizer project in Qatar, accumulating to a total of U$ 5.1 billion for the year 2008.
HDEC received the fifth package worth around U$ 1.12 billion to build the marine facilities of the new refinery from the state-owned Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) on the 11th of May. With this contract, HDEC now stands at U$ 5.1 billion of new orders received from overseas in 2008.
KNPC tendered this project in 5 packages to build the 615,000 barrels a day refinery at Mina Al-Zour about 50km south of Kuwait City. HDEC is expected to build high quality offshore facilities for loading crude oil. The refinery is to be completed by 2012.
HDEC has conducted numerous projects in the Middle East including the landmark project of the 20th century to build the Jubail Industrial Harbour Project in Saudi Arabia. With accumulated experiences in this area, HDEC has created a globally renowned reputation and symbol of advanced technology in the area of marine and harbor works. For this kind of project, HDEC has already possessed similar experiences since it built the oil pier facilities of the refinery at Mina Al Ahmadi ordered by KNPC in 2005. Through this project, HDEC has already presented its distinguished performance ability and superior technology to the world.
Meantime, HDEC advanced to the Kuwaiti market with Shuaiba Harbor Expansion Project in 1977. Ever since then, HDEC has carried out 54 successful projects, worth about U$ 4 billion in the contract value, including the recently commenced Shuaiba North Cogeneration Power & Distillation Plant.
In April, HDEC adjusted the goal of new orders received from overseas to U$ 6.5 billion. Less than a month later, HDEC stands at over U$ 5 billion in new orders. At this startling pace, HDEC will not have any difficulties in achieving not only the 2008 goal, but the largest new orders received from overseas ever in the 61 year history of the company.
HEDC on October 16 signed a US$93 million contract to conduct the main construction package of a 68-storey financial tower developed by the Binh Minh Im-Export, Production and Trading Corp.
The 262.5-meter-high building will be the tallest financial tower and the second highest facility in Vietnam, after the 336-meter, 70-storey Keangnam Hanoi Landmark Tower.
The package also includes the supply and installation of the tower's electrical and engineering systems. The Bitexco Financial Tower, located in HCM City's District 1, is bound by the streets of Hai Trie, Ngo Duc Ke and Ho Tung Mau. The total investment for the tower is estimated at US$220 million.
Bitexco chairman Vu Quang Hoi said he expected the project will be completed in 2010.
The lotus-shaped tower will have three basements of over 12,000 square meters, around 100,000 sq.m for office space, a convention center and a shopping mall.
Bitexco has become a large real estate developer with residential complexes including the Manor Hanoi and the Manor Saigon, and the Garden - an office, hotel, and shopping mall complex. nw
