Industrial Medal for ETRI's Park
In recognition for contribution to electronics communication technology, especially IPv4/Pv6, next generation Internet
Senior researcher Park Ki-shik of the Electronics Technology Research Institute, won the Industrial Medal for his outstanding contribution in the area of research on electronics technology from the Korea Standards Association.
The citation said the researcher holds doctor's degrees in policy study and computer science as a result of his ceaseless effort and passion in standardization activities at home and abroad.
Park wrote some 150 research papers and over 10 books all of them getting international recognitions in the international standardization stages which led to him to win the medal for his achievements.
Furthermore, he had part in the development of the next generation Internet such as IPv4/Pv6 and new technologies, with over 10 intellectual property rights and over 66 program registrations.
Dr. Park became chairman of the Study Group 3 in 1996, after 53 years since Korea joined the U.N.'s International Telecommunication Union(ITU) as a leader of the international standardization for the Asia-Pacific region boosting the prestige of Korea and the region and the development of standardization technologies during the process.
Park entered the race for the ITU standardization bureau manager in 2006, as SG chairman for the first time in 1996 since Korea joined the ITU(International Telecommunication Union) 53 years ago. He made a great contribution to not only Korea, but the Asia-Pacific region as a leader in the international standardization helping the development of industry and boosting the stature of Korea in the international community.
He is also past secretary-general of the W3C Korea Office in relation to the standardization of the Web sites.
He was secretary-general of the Asia-Pacific IT Ministers' Conference, and chairman of the ITU TSAG/EDH and member of the National Science Technology Committee for survey, analyses, and evaluation.
Park currently is chairman of the Group 3 of the ITU in charge of standardization of communication charges. nw
