Samsung Electronics showcases the latest handsets during the CTIA Wireless 2008 exhibition

You can live a "Second Life"in an Internet-based virtual world via mobile phone in addition to surfing the Internet while on the move.
Samsung Electronics unveiled its own mobile handsets that can be connected with Second Life during the CTIA (Cellular Telecommunication Industry Association) Wireless 2008 show held in Las Vegas from April 1-3. This show is the largest and most comprehensive trade show in the wireless industry.
The Korean electronics giant on April 1 showcased the "mixed blogging"technology to allow real and virtual persons to exchange written messages or make voice calls. Spectators were amazed with a function called "mixed contact"in which users can be informed of other users activities, such as posting edited letters, photos and music.
At the center of the spectators'attention at the Samsung Electronics'booth was the mobile WiMax (WiBro) service with such highly efficient and practical functions as Internet connection at a speed five to six times as fast as on the existing fixed line.
One day earlier, some 80 telecom companies participated in an IR session organized by Sprint-Nextel. Chung Hwan-woo, managing director in charge of overall affairs at Samsung Electronics America, Inc., said once the demonstration of the mobile WiMax service turned out to be successful, it drew explosive attention to the extent that as many as 30 companies requested a chance to experiment with the WiMax terminal.
A senior marketing officer at Samsung Electronics America, Inc., spoke well of Samsung Electronics'Instinct, a handset with a full touch screen interface complete with haptic feedback. He noted that supplying advanced handsets tailored to meet clients'demands boosted its market share dramatically, saying that Samsung Electronics released as many as about 60 new handsets last year to meet customers'diverse demands.
Samsung Electronics has put on the American market diverse strategy products and state-of-the-art telecommunications technologies in order to continue to match and exceed the feats of last year.
Samsung Electronics'share in the U.S. handset market shot up from 16.6 percent in the first quarter of 2007 to over 20 percent in the fourth quarter of last year due to the success of such strategy phones as the Blackjack smart phone and the Flipshot camera phone, combined with diverse localized marketing activities, according to figures released by Strategy Analytics.
During this show, Samsung Electronics released to the American market its global model "Soul"(the Spirit of Ultra), which was first introduced during the MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2008 held in Spain this past February. The company plans to spread the fever of the Soul that glowed in Europe to the United States. The Soul is a 12.9 mm slim premium handset with a strong camera combined with a sensitive user interface. nw
