Daelim Sets Sights on
Overseas Nuclear Power Plants

Company keen on exporting technologies for nuclear power plant construction

It was not an easy year for the construction industry last year due to a sluggish domestic economy coupled with increases in the prices of raw materials and oil and unstable currency exchange rates.
Daelim Industrial Co., despite the difficult business environment, succeeded in expanding sales and net profits beyond expectations, an outcome attributed to its management based on transparency and knowledge for the satisfaction of its customers.
The management of the company felt that the world economy faces huge changes with national borders disappearing rapidly and competition among countries growing more intense with the emergence of the BRICs -- Brazil, Russia, India and China -- and other developing countries.
What Daelim needed in this difficult time was the ability to spot changes and stick to the basics to develop future growth engines and keep the company above the fray by sustaining its growth momentum in a rapidly changing and increasingly competitive business environment.
In the new year, too, the company will make value management its top priority to create a higher value than what is expected by its clients and to explore new growth engines and raise corporate value through choice and concentration.
The company plans to secure a pool of talented employees to boost its competitiveness in all areas of its operations and try to create a result-oriented corporate culture that takes deep root in the country. The company also plans to strengthen its cooperative ties with its vendor firms in order to secure the best quality for its work, while boosting its investments in the R&D sector in both personnel and facilities. The company will make sure that the IT resources are evenly distributed in its working units in order to boost its effectiveness.
Open management, the core of the company's operation, is dedicated to further strengthening the company's ethics-based management. The company will pursue an advanced corporate culture based on reform and the practice of social corporate responsibility contingent upon transparent management.
In the new year, the company will do all it can to give priority to safety and the quality of workmanship in undertaking the construction of Shingori Nos.1 and 2 nuclear power plants by upgrading the training and skills of the technicians working on the project in order to enhance the company's international competitive edge.
Daelim hopes to secure more new projects in the areas of repairing and upgrading of nuclear power plants as well as construction projects using the expertise and experience earned by the company both at home and abroad.
According to its schedule, Daelim will install the reactor on the Shingori No. 1 nuclear power plant in April and will conduct a test on the power system in December, a very critical phase of the project. The Shingori No. 2 nuclear power plant will have most of its major buildings including RCB completed this year, a peak phase of the entire project.
RCL, an automatic welding technology to be used in the reactor for the No. 1 nuclear power station, is a new technology that went through a tough testing period. The company plans to exercise extreme caution in the application of the new welding technology, as it is the most important part of the activity that can make or break an entire project.
Daelim is also determined that its substantial progress on the No. 2 nuclear power plant construction will be very successful this year. The company plans to secure and train talented personnel before assigning them to the project to ensure the superb quality of the power plant.
The company sees remarkable growth in demand for clean energy, and many countries will be forced to turn to nuclear power plants, the safety and economic viability of which have been proven beyond a doubt, to the extent that nuclear energy is experiencing a revival in demand globally.
The time is approaching for the nuclear energy industry in Korea to show off its technological prowess and experience by building many nuclear power plants and operations throughout the world.
Daelim has already secured a high international image in its nuclear power plant construction technology and competitive power required to advance into the global nuclear power plant construction market.
The company has always pursued safety in nuclear power plant construction along with the highest quality in order to meet and exceed owners'demands.
The company has not only built new nuclear power plants, but has also participated in other services including repair and upgrade work and all other related work, securing the company's position as a leader in the industry. By so doing, Daelim has faithfully contributed to the construction of key national infrastructure projects, completing part of the national mission for a stable and economic supply of energy. nw
