KTF to Solidify Overseas
Presence in 3G WCDMA Market

'SHOW'brand celebrates the first anniversary of its commercial launch on March 1

KTF Co., the nation's second largest mobile carrier, marking the first anniversary of the launch of the 3G WCDMA service 'SHOW,'is stepping on the gas to expand its global presence.
With the acceleration of a strategy to ratchet up its global presence, KTF aims to raise revenues from overseas businesses to 1 trillion won, or 10 percent of its total revenues, by 2015.
In particular, KTF plans to strengthen its tie-up with China Mobile, China's largest mobile telecom provider, by introducing the SHOW roaming number price system designed to reduce roaming fees for SHOW subscribers traveling in China by up to 70 percent. The move is designed to capitalize on a rise in roaming services, which is expected to peak during the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.
KTF President and CEO Cho Young-chu told reporters on Feb. 28 at the Press Center in Seoul, "As 86 percent of foreign businesses introduce the WCDMA (Wibeband Code Division Multiple Access) services, business opportunities overseas have been increasing.
KTF plans to evolve SHOW, which holds the No. 1 position in the 3G market, into a global brand."In areas other than China, KTF plans to expand the two-number roaming service system. In April, KTF will unveil roaming services offering lower roaming data prices through the Conexus Mobile Alliance in cooperation with the six member countries of the Asian Pacific Mobile Alliance.
In 2007, KTF agreed to acquire a 33 percent interest in U Mobile, a new Malaysian 3G mobile carrier together with Japan's NTT DoCoMo, the first such entry into a foreign market by the Korean mobile carrier.
KTF will showcase its technological prowess as it plans to release in April a mobile handset roaming road guidance program it developed with NTT DoCoMo as well as overseas mobile accounting services via the handset instead of a credit card.
Cho said, "KTF is now in talks with U Mobile, which has shown an interest in the use of the SHOW brand in Malaysia."In Korea, KTF will step up its efforts to solidify SHOW's position.
The carrier said that beginning in March, SHOW subscribers will be allowed to change to other mobile phones by inserting their own USIM card, or universal subscriber identity mode card, into the other phone. The measure will come as KTF will lift the lock-in functions on USIM in accordance with the government's decision. KTF plans to invigorate video services by offering 300-minute video calls free of charge for the month of March.
The number of SHOW subscribers surpassed the 1 million mark on July 6, 2007, a little more than four months after the nationwide HSDPA coverage was launched on March 1. That number shot up to 3 million this past Dec. 19, 2007.
KTF believes SHOW owes its brilliant performance to a competitive edge with better and newer services than the existing 2.5G CDMA service.
KTF's 3G service SHOW emerges as a great boon to its business performance.
Most of the SHOW subscribers are tech-savvy trendsetters who are willing to pay for the latest mobile gadgets and services.
KTF unveiled SHOW on March 1, 2007. The WCDMA service, which was successfully commercialized by KTF and SK Telecom in the first half of last year, can offer such diverse services as video calling and global roaming by capitalizing on a data transmission speed that is up to 15 times faster than the existing CDMA service. nw
