GS Caltex President Wins Order
of Industrial Service, Silver Medal
Recognized for his management innovation activities
Hur Jin-soo, president in charge of production at GS Caltex was conferred on the Order of Industrial Service, Silver Tower in recognition of conducting the company's management innovations to strengthen competitiveness during the 35th Commerce Day anniversary held at the COEX in Seoul on March 19.
President Hur has been credited with disseminating the Six Sigma program to all corporate segments ranging from management to production employees. GS Caltex has improved productivity worth 299.5 billion won by performing 2,278 tasks by the second half of 2007.
GS Caltex, which introduced the Incident & Injury Free campaign in late 2005, surpassed the 6 million man-hour mark in 2007, the first such feat in the domestic refinery industry.
The refinery was praised for reducing cost worth 75 billion won per annum by lowering the Energy Efficiency Index (EII), down about 4.5 percent from 88 in 2004 to 84 in 2006.
GS Caltex was cited for contributing to the development of the national economy by exporting 9.6 trillion won worth of products ¡ª not only its traditional item, fuel oil but also lubricants and high-quality asphalt products ¡ª accounting for 50.2 percent of the company's total revenues in such wide markets as China, Japan, the Middle East and Russia.
The company has provided technical assistance since the construction of a refinery plant, including residue fluid catalytic cracking unit (RFCC) factory in Oman, while having been exporting the expertise for the operation of an aromatic compound plant it established.
GS Caltex has earned a reputation for ensuring co-prosperity with related industries and social responsibility. The company has made all-out efforts to maintain co-prosperity relations with SMEs by creating jobs through large-scale refinery upgrades and providing the payments to SMEs in cash.
The refinery company has conducted diverse social contribution projects, including the human development support projects as it plans to donate 10 billion won every year for 10 years since August 2006 when its welfare foundation was established. nw
