Spirit Naturalism in Western Art

Painter Oh creates spirit naturalism during his long study of nature in his artwork

A distinct feature of painter Oh Jun-won's art work is that subjects of his art are so average that they can be found easily any where in his daily life including a green grass field that often appears in his paintings.
When one takes a look at his art work, he could see his art objects blowing out the feeling for freedom and simplicity as if he is the king for creativity from the look of his magical use of colors and extraordinary painting style departing from traditional ways, which can only come from a serious study of art.
The master painter sings the song of nature as heartily as he can through such art and expresses freely the chance meetings between humans. Nature is the womb, which always embraces life with enough room and repeats its grand cycles through its own languages to create harmony and balance.
Humans, who are the master of all creatures is just nothing but a small piece inside the awesome nature, mysterious, surprising and grandiose. To the painter, such humans are the creation of nature and its attached product, although they change and walk the way of grand cycles which change all the time.
The painter said he too is thrown off guard by the grandiose nature and awed by the depth of the nature's creation and he fills his stupendous feelings into his canvases in his mind at the moment. He said he brings those canvases in his mind to his studio and put them together in art forms after refining them with his philosophy and artistic zeal interpreting them with his own language. He said he selects many of his artistic motives from nature.
The painter said while working on motives retrieved from nature he felt visible shortcomings in them and he continuously worked on the ways to supplement them. He expressed the work as a revolutionary art as he found ways to mix Western art with Oriental spirit. He found ways to supplement the visible shortcomings with an abstract form of art he created, demanding the power of thinking.

Oh said his world of art is made of Oriental thoughts captured in an abstract form of Western art, which is his own artistic universe, an eternal flame of nature and humans becoming one.
The painter said during the process of his artistic pursuit to mix nature and man, he found spirit naturalism with initials of NS(natural and spirit). He said it was not easy to give birth to a new idea, which is possible only when a special research passion and philosophical thoughts work together as a base. This is why he always holds his art exhibitions under the title of NS.
An art critic said painter Oh's artwork can be summarized as those connected with spirit naturalism. Spirit naturalism is not a genre of art, but just a form of worship and love of nature. Oh's paintings are based on an art spirit that holds a deep love of nature. If viewers of his art pieces are attracted to his art, that's because of his art's magnetic love spewed by each of his paintings. It shows that the viewers have captured what the art pieces wanted to portray and convey in their meanings.
Oh tried to get away from the mannerism of Western art and searches for mystics of natural world in his artwork which are series of products developed with long observation of nature and a deep dialogue becoming one with nature. The painter has formed his own spiritual work after a long observation and a dialogue with nature, which are drilled into his own art world.
Observing his art work, serious viewers would find that his canvases are full of ecstasy, and rapture connected with dynamism. They would also see that his art pieces always use a cyclical system and a pure spiritual word that only belongs to the painter, which are expressed in a conversational world, capturing the minds of the viewers with the color tone always joyful and subservient to nature.
The painter is always enraptured by the mysticism of colors and inspiration and turns the instant sensations into artistic energy and creates a special and unique canvases, which can only come from god-given talents and ambition that he can only have as an artist. They make flowers in the canvas full bloom under his terrific artistic initiatives, which is highly evaluated.
In creating his art, the painter employs inspiration, technique, powerful energy, and automatic method in an effort to thoroughly confirm that his art work are based on the painter's positive thoughts, and naturalness. Their creative methods are related together with natural spirit naturalism. nw
