GNP Rep. Shim proud of attendance record and legislative initiatives

Rep. Shim Jae-chol of the Grand National Party is proud of his record as a lawmaker because his belongs to the top group of the 17th term National Assembly members in with 98 percent attendance.
The legislator from Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, won a number of coveted awards, first, for his excellent role in the parliamentary audit of the administration conducted last year, second, the top award in parliamentary activities and third the award for not telling lies, making him the triple crown winner.
His legislative activities have been outstanding with his initiation of 50 cases of legislative drafts for revision of the existing laws, compared to 36 initiation of law revisions during the 16th National Assembly.
Most of his legislative activities were devoted to expanding the support for the socially dislocated people such as the disabled, women, and workers, and reduce wastes of government budget funds, especially, those allocated to large public projects.
The legislator's calls for revision of laws on the Internet portal to prohibit other media to copying the reports from the Internet and edit them like their own reports. He also questioned if the TOIC English lessons would truly help improve English ability of students. He said those who score more than 800 points have problems in English conversation and writing, pointing out that it has its limits in evaluating the English ability and as means to learn English.
He also called for the revision of the law for animal projection to stop any efforts by animal pet owners to prolong the lives of their pets.
Rep. Shim also warned many problems associated with legislators and government officials doubling as professors, saying many of them missed classes for some reason or another. nw
