HDEC Wins $200 mln

Aims to win $4.2 bln worth of overseas projects in 2008
Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. (HDEC) said on Jan. 15 that it landed a $200 million contract to build the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in Singapore.
The project, ordered by Singapore's Health Ministry, calls for the construction of two hospital buildings with eight to 10 floors with a total of 500 beds in Yishun, about 20 km north of downtown Singapore.
A HDEC official said, "We landed $1.4 billion worth of projects from Singapore alone last year, and this project is the first one we're won so far this year."HDEC aims to land $4.2 billion worth of overseas projects during 2008 by focusing on the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
This past October, HDEC won a (US)$114.2 million construction order for OUH (Overseas Union House) in Singapore from CDPL (Clifford Development Pte., Ltd.), a subsidiary of Lippo Group, which operates real estate development businesses.
This project, which will serve as the head office of Lippo Group,
calls for the construction of an 18-story building with four basement levels in the Collyer Quay area near downtown Shenton Way in Singapore. The total construction period is 32 months.
HDEC also won an approximately $100 million "One Shenton Way"luxury condominium construction project in January of this year.
Through carrying out large-sized construction projects such as the Golden Hill Park Condominium ¡ª which resulted in the company winning the grand prize in the Singapore Construction Excellence Award, the Signature Condominium, and Hume Park Condominium, HDEC has gained a reputation for its excellent construction capabilities and technologies.
HDEC is now more competitive in the Singaporean construction market and is positioned to receive more large-scale construction orders like the Sentosa Project in the near future.
"Since a number of additional construction orders are expected in Singapore these days, we are focusing on steadily winning more orders,"said one of HDEC's managers. "We're also applying our advanced technologies and experience in overseas construction sites to the HILLSTATE construction projects."HDEC first entered the Singapore market with the Pulau Tekong reclamation project in 1981 and has since completed the Singapore subway, Changi Airport, Suntech City and the Marine Center, among other construction and civil engineering projects. nw
