The agreements were signed on the sidelines of the Korea-US-EURO International Conference on Technology Commercialization 2007
The Korea Technology Transfer Center (KTTC) has signed MOUs on technology trade and information exchanges with Yet2.com, a U.S. on-line and off-line technology trade institution, and PATEV, the leading European IP management firm.
The agreements were signed on the sidelines of the Korea-US-EURO International Conference on Technology Commercialization 2007, which took place at the Sheraton Walker Hill Hotel in Seoul on Nov. 28-29. Sohn Young-bock, president of the KTTC, Kim Yong-keun, assistant minister of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy (MOCIE) in charge of industry policies, and Eugene Buff of Yet2.com participated in the signing ceremony.
Industry experts said the signing of the MOUs with the world's IP trade leaders is significant at a time when Korea needs to enhance collaboration and promote exchanges with technology powerhouses in the wake of the conclusion of the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement and the ongoing Korea-EU FTA negotiations.
The MOUs call for mutual cooperation in technology transfer, technology marketing in the case of technology transfer and sharing information on policies and commercialization.
KTTC officials said the agreements will not only facilitate the sale of domestically grown technologies in the U.S. and European markets, but also contribute to strengthening the capacity of the Korean technology transfer market.
MOCIE Assistant Minister Kim said, "In an era of full-blown market liberalization and competition, we have to proactively accept outside ideas and technologies to accelerate technological innovations and diversify innovative sources to enhance our competitive edge. It is important to share the know-how of advanced countries with a longer history of R&D."The Korea-US-EURO International Conference on Technology Commercialization 2007 was organized by KTTC in order to share expertise on technology transfer and commercialization and promote exchanges of advanced technologies with U.S. and European technology transfer companies.

KTTC President Sohn said in his opening speech, "As the technology innovation structure is shifting from 'closed innovation'to 'open innovation,'complementing technologies through outsourcing is recognized as an effective technology strategy rather than one in which one company develops all technologies."He noted that national competitiveness and the value of technology depend on how fast technologies can be commercialized in the market, so technology transfer and commercialization serve as essential factors of every country's competitive edge.
CRA International Vice President Yurkerwich said in his keynote speech titled 'Global Trends in Technology Transfer'that intellectual property accruing from technology becomes a major business asset and a force behind economic growth.
