Twenty people were presented with diverse prizes in recognition of their contribution to the development of the domestic aviation industry at the annual Aviation Day ceremony.
About 400 people, including Minister of Construction and Transportation Lee Young-seop, airlines CEOs and heads of aviation organizations were present at a ceremony to celebrate the 27th annual Aviation Day on Nov. 6 at Gimpo Airport Sky City. Aviation Day began in 1981 as a way to raise public awareness of aviation and encourage those who have made meritorious contributions to the development of the domestic aviation industry. In a speech, Minister Lee said the domestic aviation industry has made strides as it placed 8th in terms of cargo transportation volume and Incheon International Airport was again selected best airport in the world in the annual survey by AETRA for the second straight year this past March.
In September, Korea became one of the 13 ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) board members at its 36th session of the ICAO held in Montreal, Canada. It is the third time Korea has been selected as a ICAO board member following 2001 and 2004. nw
