KES 2007 Demonstrates Futuristic
Digital Tech and Cutting-Edge IT Items
650 exhibitors, including 220 foreign companies, participated in the trade fair
The Korea Electronics Show 2007 (KES 2007), an exhibition designed to highlight Korea's electronics industry as an IT powerhouse, featured an array of the latest and futuristic electronics goods.
A total of 650 corporate exhibitors, including 220 foreign companies from 25 countries, participated in KES 2007, which ran from Oct. 9-13 at the KINTEX in Goyang, north of Seoul.
Held under the theme of "Home to a New Digital Life,"the trade fair attracted such global leaders as Samsung, LG, SONY, SHARP, Haier and Taiyo Yuden.
Those in attendance during an opening session were Vice Minister for Commerce and Industry Oh Young-ho, Gyeonggi Gov. Kim Moon-soo and Yun Jong-yong, chairman of the Korea Electronics Association (KEA).
KES 2007, marking its 38th exhibition, is Korea;s largest specialized exhibition dealing with electronics, IT products and technology. About 250,000 items were displayed at the exhibition site covering 32,157 sq. meters.
Spectators got a glimpse of such advanced digital and IT products as the 180P Full HDTV with a resolution double that of the existing 180i HDTV, and a nanometer capsule-type endoscopy, a device designed to transmit images of the internal organs of the human body.
The LG Electronics Pavilion demonstrated such up-to-minuite products as a 102-inch "Wood"PDP (plasma display panel) TV with 1,920x1,080-class picture cell double the existing HD TVs, a "120Hz"Broadway TV with a resolution twice as clear as the existing HD-class TVs and a "Entertainer"TV with a newly developed "X4Plus"PDP panel that has improved brightness and contrast that .
The company also displayed such diverse state-of-the-art IT products as the world's first dual-format, second-generation player "Super Blue,"and handsets.
Samsung Electronics unveiled cutting-edge products like the Full HD LCD TV with LED backlights, "Borudo"120Hz LCD TV, "Cannes"Full HD PDP TV to strut its stuff in design and technological prowess.
To help spectators experience
a wide range of future digital technologies, KES 2007 had special halls separate from the general booths. They included the New Technology Demonstration Hall, the Good Design Hall and the Newly Developed Excellent Electronics Parts Hall.
Trade sessions for parts and materials were held with the participation of invited buyers from global IT companies. There were also export consultation meetings involving buyers from Chinese, Vietnamese, and Russian electronics industries, in a bid to help expand the exports of the participating companies.
Noteworthy were keynote speeches, delivered by Sun Microsystems Chairman Scott McNealy and LG Electronics President Lee Hee-gook on the future of the IT industry following the era of digital convergence. Kim said, "The electronics industry has been facing with a crisis of a lower growth rate, and companies need to attach priority on customers, reforming and be beloved by people to overcome the stalemate."The trade fair also had such side events as international seminars, product launches by major participating companies and a number of other programs that facilitated the exchange of information. nw
