Korea Design Center - At the
Forefront of Korean Design Promotion

Established in September, 2001, the Korea Design Center(KDC) has emerged as the hub for promotion of the Korean design industry, accommodating various design-related facilities and institutes. The symbolic shape of the Korea Design Center is that of an ark, voyaging toward the new millennium and carrying out its role as promoter of the design industry.
Built on a 50,000 square meter plot, the 8-story building has four floors of underground facilities. With excellent architectural landscaping, the institute also boasts the "Oullim (harmony) tower"in front of the main building. A masterpiece by a Chilean artist, it was built for an international contest on the occasion of the observation of ICSID 2001 Seoul.
The wide-open artrium leads you to the center of the building, which holds a large sculpture titled "new humans, new design."The human-faced sculpture symbolizes designers who change the lives of fellow human beings. Visitors can enjoy the views of the entire artrium through the transparent elevators installed in the lobby.
There is a 1,700 square meter exhibition room in the 1st underground floor where visitors can enjoy design exhibitions. The convention hall on the 6th floor can accommodate 600 people in a 1,000 square meter area, and is equipped with a variety of facilities needed for hosting international conferences and seminars.
The KDC has been operating the design experience room in order to enable children and the general public to get first-hand experience with design, in a bid to meet the needs for early design education. It consists of six theme rooms and 14 corners in a 1,200 square meter area. These been popular courses for children. They have provided a stage for real-life design through which visitors can have easier access to design. nw
