Three Decades in Korea
Its 30 years since 3 M set foot in Korea and started producing such products as wash rags, LCD Display, and films, altogether some 9,000 products. The U.S. company landed in Korea in joint venture with Doosan Group in 1977, but it has become a fully independent company after its take over of 40 percent stake from Doosan in 1996.
President Michael Roman of Korea 3 M Co. said the company practically grew up with the Korean economy. The company produced products needed to build social net in the '70s such as the traffic signs and others and supplied grinding material to small and medium companies in Korea and in the '90s consumer goods and in the '000, hi-tech products for auto and the IT industries.
The company produces some 9,000 products from its 8 departments ranging from adhesives to LCD display films. Protective industrial masks are produced only in Asia at its plant in Hwasung, Gyeonggi Province. The company has been able to increase its annual sales by 25 percent in the past 30 years and its sales totaled 1.115,7 trillion won last year. nw
