Renault-Samsung sets H1 record in car sales since its operation kicked off in 2000


Renault-Samsung Motors Co. celebrated its 7th anniversary on Sept. 1. Renault, a French auto maker, took over Samsung Motors Co. in September, 2000 by securing 70.1 percent stake in the Korean auto maker and has made a sound growth since the new operation was launched.
At the time of the takeover, the auto maker had 1,900 employees, but the number as of the end of last year, expanded over three times and totalled 6,400.
The car maker sold 160,408 cars last year, the largest in its history, up some 12 times compared to the number in its initial year of operation in 2000.
During the same period, the sales value amounted to 2.580 trillion won last year, up 14.4 times from the initial year of operation.
President Jean Marie Hurtiger, through the Internet, thanked all officers and staff for their hard work on the occasion of the company's 7th anniversary. He said the past 7 years were very meaningful for the company as it has been a period for powerful growth and development.
He said he sincerely appreciates every one for doing his or her best for the growth of the company. The SM5 New Impression, which was launched two month ago, already sold over 14,000 units, once again showing the potential of the company.
President Hurtiger said the company will welcome the founding anniversary with such great happiness every year if all employees do the best in executing their duties. He showed his confidence that the cross over CUV project named H45 to debut in November will rouse up the car market both at home and abroad to be an engine for growth for the company on its way to become a global auto maker.
The CEO said the auto maker sold 82,463 cars in the first half of the year including 56,824 cars at home and 25,639 abroad, the biggest record since the company began operation, sees no problem in meeting the year's sales target set at 172,300 cars.
He sincerely wish to thank every officer and staff for doing their best so that the company will set record sales in the H1. He said word 'vacance'came from Latin, meaning leaving the house empty, and became a French word for vacation. He wished every one from the company would have a nice vacation this summer, hours to feel real freedom from every thing.
The president also called for every one's best effort for the success of the company's new sedan, SM5 New Impression, which made its debut on July 2 and the cross-over car with the project name of H45, which is awaiting to be debuted in the domestic car market. He said the new CUV will create a new explosive wind in the car market as it is aimed at meeting customer demand with quality.
Hurtiger hoped that all officers and staff would take their summer vacation as an opportunity to recharge their batteries and return to the office all charged up to double their work output. nw
