Strives to expand its business portfolio to large-size leisure, improve its presence in the environmental plant business and explore foreign markets


TAEYOUNG Engineering & Construction is turning to more aggressive management strategies on the occasion of its move into the new Yeouido head office building in this past April, departing from its traditionally conservative management approaches.
TAEYOUNG E&C has been switching into an offensive mode. The company is venturing into a large-size leisure business as part of efforts to diversify its current businesses - civil works, tap water/sewage and general & housing construction. TAEYOUNG E&C is carrying out The Honors Resort Project, an integrated resort project that includes the already-opened country club, condominiums, water park/therapy golf courses and arboretum on a lot of 3 million pyeong (9.9 million sq. meters).
TAEYOUNG E&C has reorganized its operations to make the plant business within the Civil Engineering Division a separate division as part of its efforts to strengthen its presence in the environmental plant business area.
TAEYOUNG is putting more energy into exploring water-related environmental business as its future growth engine. The company has gained a reputation with its own technological power as has seasoned experience and expertise accumulated while conducting projects on sewage and wastewater treatment facilities,
TAEYOUNG E&C has become a domestic water treatment and environmental business leader which has built up a comprehensive integrated service system ranging from design, construction, inspection and operation of environmental facilities. The company has a track record of having already constructed 48 sewerage and wastewater treatment plants for the recent decade. The company is constructing 20 more wastewater treatment plants, including Jangseungpo Waste Water Plant.
Take a look into environmental projects TAEYOUNG E&C has successfully inaugurated. The Gaenun Waste Water Treatment Plant, done by TAEYOUNG, has become Korea's first PPI project in the wastewater treatment business.
TAEYOUNG E&C built the Jeonju Wastewater Terminus Treatment Plant Phase III with the world's largest single unit capacity of 100,000 tons per day. The company constructed the world's first TEC-BNR sewage treatment plant in Doyang, Goheung-gu, South Jeolla Province, using acid fermentation of food waste. It is constructing the planned Suwon wastewater terminus treatment plant with the world's largest capacity of 220,000 tons per day, using acid fermentation of food waste. TAEYOUNG constructed Asia's largest capacity (4,100 tons per day) and Korea's first Membrane Bioreactor with Sludge Reduction (MBSR) plant in Jinbu, Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province.
TAEYOUNG E&C is gearing up for its investment and participation in the Yeongdeungpo MBR-type advanced clean water infiltration plant project, being pushed as a pilot one of the Ministry of Environment's next generation core environment technology development project, codenamed "Eco-Start project."Besides the construction of wastewater treatment plants, TAEYOUNG participated in the construction of 34 tap water purification plants for the past 10 years.
The company built the Gangbuk Water Purification Plant with a daily capacity of 1 million tons, Asia's largest one.
With harmonizing humans and the environment in mind, TAEYOUNG has set an example of adding a sewage treatment plant to ecological parks and welfare spaces so that citizens can experience nature and a local administrative unit can receive economic benefits arising from the operation of the park.
TAEYOUNG E&C is striving to enter the foreign water treatment markets by making the most of its strengths - the experiences and expertise it has accumulated in the implementation of domestic water-related projects. The company is seeking to take diverse steps, including the formation of consortia with large-size contractors, to make a foray into overseas markets.
NEW CORPORATE IDENTITY. TAEYOUNG E&C unveiled its new corporate identity in a bid to raise its profile externally and maximize its corporate value on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of its founding.
The company has changed its name from TAEYOUNG to TAEYOUNG Engineering & Construction and established a new vision under the catchphrase "The most excellent company, creates the life value of customer."
MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES. First, TAEYOUNG E&C is striving to enhance corporate value to pursue substantial growth by building up a business foundation for ensuring the stability of profits in the long-term perspective, departing from external, superficial growth.
Second, the company is focusing on strengthening the capability to land constriction orders and maximize profits. It is building up a companywide system for providing support for landing more orders, while adopting a choice and focus strategy of making selective bidding to win orders based on profitability as constriction orders are expected to decline and the lowest bidding price system is to be expanded.
TAEYOUNG E&C introduced its apartment brand "Dessian"with the goal of spearheading a new housing space culture.
TAEYOUNG has taken the initiative in cleaning up malpractice in the domestic construction circles by implementing principle management based on principle and observance of laws and regulations.
Third, TAEYOUNG E&C is doing its utmost to secure quality competitiveness by widening technical educational programs and opportunities to study abroad.
Fourth, the company plans to instill a challenging spirit of pursing endless changes and introduce an innovative management system to cope with future uncertainties and the change of business circumstances.
Fifth, TAEYOUNG strives to pursue a corporate culture of sticking to principles and ensure honesty in keeping with a strengthened sense of overall ethical standards and transparent management.
Among mega-projects being executed by TAEYOUNG in the project financing business is the construction of a large-size multiple-purpose 59-story complex with a combined floor space of 203,000 pyeong (669,900 sq. meters) comprising of large discount stores and shopping malls, offices, a hotel and other amenities in the Gwangmyeong Station area in Gyeonggi Province at a cost of 1.5 trillion won. Phase I projects on commercial and amenities are scheduled to be dedicated by 2010 while Phase II projects on offices, a hotel and music experience halls, educational/cultural facilities are to be completed by 2012.
In the housing business, TAEYOUNG E&C is to build and sell five housing-commercial buildings with each having 54 to 63 floors for a total of 3,859 homes under the Masan Metro-City Project in the second half of the year. The company will construct and sell apartments with 430 units within September. The company is seeking to carry out more housing projects in the Seoul and provincial metropolitan city areas. The company has been awarded with a number of awards, including the Value Management Grand Prize in 1998 and Korea Ethical Management Grand Prize in 2004 and the Order of Industrial Service Merit, Gold Tower in 2007 in recognition of ensuring transparent management and integrity.
TAEYOUNG E&C has been praised for introducing a 100 percent cash payment system since 1999, setting an example of practices with subcontractors.
