Cho Young-nam Holds Art
Show in Millennium Seoul Hilton
Millennium Seoul Hilton is most pleased to present an art show featuring pieces made by pop singer Cho Young-nam. Approximately 30 artworks will be on display in the hotel's lobby from August 17th through to October 26th.
To kick off this event, a special opening reception will be held on Friday, August 17th at 6:30 p.m. in the Lower Lobby, where Cho will give a short musical performance.
A multitalented singer, television personality, best-selling author and artist, Cho is most identified by the term hwasu, a word he coined to describe the combination of two Korean words, hwaga (painter) and gasu (singer). Identifying with both labels, Cho has been working with the harmony of art and music for many years.
Cho's first exhibition was held at the Korean Gallery in Insadong in 1973. Since then, he has held exhibitions all over the world, including the Bowers Museum in Los Angeles. Cho has just released a guidebook on contemporary art titled Who Cares Modern Arts on June 28th.

Cho was born sometime between 1944 and 1945, and somewhere between the towns of Namcheon and Sincheon in Hwanghae Province, in what is now North Korea. On January 4, 1950 his family fled the north to settle in Yesan in Chungnam Province. Cho made his singing debut in 1964 with a song called Delilah. He studied music at the Seoul National University, but soon dropped out of school but later received an honorary degree.
In 1970, he joined the army and completed his service after 3 years. Then in 1974, Billy Graham invited him to go to the United States to study. In 1979, he received his B.A. from Trinity Christian College in Florida and in 1982, he returned back to Korea and resume his singing career. In 1992, he appeared as a co-host on The Johnny Yune Show, which kickstarted a number of television appearances. Currently, he has his own radio show on MBC.
Cho has released numerous albums and is one of Korea's most notable and most recognized singers. He also wrote several books, including A Young Korean Man's Vision of Christ (1981), Mr. Youngnam Cho is a Genius (2002), Youngnam Cho meets Art in the Road (2003) and most recently Who Cares Modern Arts (2007).
Cho held his first art exhibition in Insadong in 1973. Since then, his art has been shown all over Korea, as well as in New York and Los Angeles. nw
