Cream of Monet's Work

The famous impressionist painter's work on display at Seoul Museum of Art June 6-Sept.26


Monet's 60 impressionist work are on display at Seoul Museum of Art from June 6 and one of the greatest art events in the country will close on September 26. The art event is organized by Seoul Museum of Art, the Hankook Ilbo and KBS Korea and supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Korea Tourism Organization, and the Embassy of France in Korea.
Claude Monet(1840-1926) was a leader and initiator of impressionist style painting and it was the biggest revolution in the 19th century.
Theme of Monet exhibition is the Scenery of Water. The French painter is an artist of water. From Le Havre, Argenteuil, Poissy, Eteretat, Pourville, Honfleur, the Thames in London, a field of Tulips in Holland, Antibes, Venice, and to the pond in his own garden at Giverny where he passed away, there was always the water in his life, and his paintings were filled with the scenery of water.
In the current exhibition,
the French painter's work mostly focus on "Water Lilies"series. It's presenting about 20 works and landscape paintings of garden at Givenchy. Among these works, the exhibition shows two outsize paintings with 3 meters long, and several "Water Lilies"works 2 meters long. The current exhibition is the largest Monet display outside France, and the rare chance to view Monet's "Water Lilies"the most important part of Monet's art world.
Monet's work is divided into four grand parts by the name of cities where he lived. Primer Period, the early years(1860-1871), Argenteuil Period, bloom into impressionism (1871-1878), Vetheuil and Poissy Period,achieved his own style(1878-1883) and Giverny Period, compiled all the mysteries of nature and universe into "Water Lilies"1883-1926).
The great 19th century painter's art exhibition is divided into 5 themes that help to understand easily Monet Art, breaking away from a usual chronological display.
The exhibition starts with 1. "Water Lilies" Landscape on the water, presenting the crystal of Monet's art, 2. Portraits of Family, presenting the portrait of his family members, 3. Garden of Giverny, opening the "Water Lilies"series and abstract painting, 4. The Seine and the Sea, presenting impressionist landscape paintings which opened a new era in art history, 5. Lights in Europe, presenting sceneries of Europe reflected in Monet's eyes during his travel to the Netherlands, England, Italy and etc. nw
