the Constant Move Overseas
Busies himself in making observation tours to foreign operations
Kumho-Asiana Group Chairman Park Sam-koo is constantly on the move on observation tours to foreign countries in a more active fashion than ever before after his group's acquisition of Daewoo Engineering & Construction, one of Korea's biggest contractors.
He has changed his management style to making first-hand tours to overseas operations rather than receiving briefings from his executives and staff members.
Lately, Kumho-Asiana Chairman Park toured China where his group's many affiliates have operations shortly after wrapping up a series of business trips to the Middle East and Southeast Asia, including Libya and Vietnam.
On his tour to Libya, Kumho-Asiana Chairman Park visited a project site of Daewoo E&C and met with Libyan Prime Minster Baghdadi Mahmudi on June 25 before returning home.
On this past July 2 one day after his arrival, Mr. Park embarked on a two-night, three-day business tour to Vietnam. On July 10, he made a tight-scheduled trip to China before returning home the following day.
On July 27, he also embarked on a business tour to Changchun where he inaugurated Kumho Tire's plant.
Chairman's Park's business activities were brisker than ever after his group took over Daewoo E&C. His group's acquisition widened Chairman Park's scope of business activities. Daewoo E&C, the construction unit of Kumho-Asiana Group has a bigger presence in Libya while Vietnam has operations for Daewoo E&C, Kumho E&C, Kumho Tire and Asiana Airlines. Asiana Airlines, Kumho Tire, Kuho Petrochemical, Kumho Rent Car, Kumho Expressway and Asiana Leisure have a presence in China.
Group Chairman Park visited Dubai and Qatar last March and Libya last June to make first-hand business trips to operations of his group's construction unit as CEO Chairman of Daewoo E&C.
While staying in Vietnam, Chairman Park made an inspection tour to such sites as the Hanoi new city development project, Vung Tau port project and Ho Chi Minh City leisure town project. the board and so it will proceed as planned.
Group officials said Chairman Park has paid a special interest on such countries as the Middle and Vietnam where Kumho-Asiana group's affiliates have expanded core industries.
AWARD FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TOWARD KOREAN-CHINESE TIES. Park Sam-koo, chairman of the Korea-China Friendship Association, received an award in recognition of his efforts towards promoting relations between Korea and China. Luo Hao Cai, Chairman of the China-Korea Friendship Association, who is also Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top political advisory body, presented the award. The ceremony took place on July 11 at Beijing's Great Hall of the People.
In advance of the award ceremony, Mr. Park paid a visit to Hui Liang Yu, Vice Premier of the People's Republic of China, on the afternoon of the 10th, at which occasion he discussed various ways to increase exchange and strengthen relations between the two countries.
Since taking office as Chairman
of the Korea-China Friendship Association in March 2005, Mr Park has met with numerous economic and political heavyweights from China, including President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao, upon their visit to Korea. In doing so, he has been faithfully carrying out his duties as a civilian diplomat.
Mr. Park has also launched a wide array of initiatives to further promote relations between the two nations, such as monthly lectures by Chinese specialists, Korean speaking competitions for Chinese university students, music concerts to mark Korea-China relations, trade tours for Chinese diplomats in Korea, and free Chinese lessons.
The Korea-China Friendship Association plans to continue its efforts to increase civilian exchange in fields as various as education, culture, science, social affairs, and sports. In August, it is hosting a concert in Seoul to be given by the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, in joint commemoration of 15 years of diplomatic relations between Korea and China and Korea-China Exchange Year 2007. nw
