Creative CEO Award
KT also wins 2007 Corporate Governance Honorable Company Award from KCGS
KT President-CEO Nam Joong-soo has been selected as the winner of the inaugural Korea Creative CEO Award by the Korean Standards Association (KSA) in recognition of his taking the initiative in spreading the so-called Wonderful Management, a principle of management of considering and translating into action from the viewpoint of clients.
KSA announced that KT President Nam shared the Korea Creative CEO Award with President-CEO Lee Seung-han of Samsung Tesco.
The Korea Creative CEO Award was established this year with the goal of creating an environment for facilitating staff members'creative power and publicizing CEOs who spearhead changes and innovations. The screening committee of the Korea Creative Award, headed by Prof. Kwak Soo-keun of Seoul National University Management Administration Graduate School, has determined the award winners based on five categories - creative management, management innovation, social responsibility, contribution to economic development and contribution to development of regional community.
KT President Nam is praised as an "excellent CEO who has played leading roles in ensuring creative management with open-minded philosophy and management.
Mr. Nam has been credited with having coined what he calls the Wonderful Management - describing CEO as a person who sees and hears and offers excitement - and "Wonderful Management,"a principle of management of considering and translating into action from the viewpoint of clients.
His customer-oriented management has been translating into diverse services. Cases in focus are "Mega Ms. Service"for female IT engineers'visiting clients; "Wonderful Letter,"a telephone bill with emotional messages; and "Mega Pass"voluntary compensation system for delaying the launch of high-speech Internet services and their cancellation.
His efforts have paid off. KT has grabbed the Korea Customer Satisfaction Grand Prize for the fourth year in a row.
The Customer Value Innovation Center has been inaugurated to explore creative, innovative ideas and businesses and create the new value for customers.
The "IT Supporters,"a corps of 400 volunteers, has been established to ease digital divide to create a new culture for "donating specialized expertise and capabilities."KT has played leading roles in building up digital knowledge-based infrastructure by laying high-speed Internet network to rural villages with less than 50 residents.
KT President Nam has periodically been sending "Wonder Memos"containing pending management issues, while striving to meet inside customers'demands by making first-hand observation tours to as many as 720 sites and hearing opinions through communication of staff members and reflecting them into management. Mr. Nam had all executives to experience in movie production, music appreciation, dying, sculpturing and other events in Nami Island last August in a bid to translate into action his belief that creative management originates from experiencing art.
KT has set up "KT Art Hall,"a jazz performance center and proceeds from performances from the center are donated as part of contributions to society.
KT President Nam said, "winning the Korea Creative CEO Award is owed to resolutions and strenuous efforts to change all inside and outside activities into customer-oriented ones, and KT will continue to pursue changes and innovations based on creative management in the years to come."KT's CORPORATE GOVERNANCE. KT has won the 2007 Corporate Governance Honorable Company Award by the Korea Corporate Governance Service (KCGS) during a meeting held on June 13.
The KCGS has announced an annual list of award winners in five categories - protection of shareholders'rights, board of directors, public notice, auditing organization and management performances.
KT was become the Corporate Governance Grand Prize winner this year for the sixth consecutive year. As any company which has been selected as the Corporate Governance Grand Prize for the third consecutive year is elevated to be the Corporate Governance Honorable Company Award winner from this year, and each grand prize winner is picked up in each field, KT has not only become the 2007 Corporate Honorable Company Award Winner but also the grand prize winner in the category of the board of directors.
KT has declared its intention to ensure transparent management and improve corporate governance by putting the Chapter of Corporate Governance and the code of officers and staff members'code of conduct on public notice. An outside director has been selected to preside over the board of directors to ensure and an outside audit has been appointed through a public bidding process to ensure independence. KT is praised for returning the achievements of its business performances to shareholders by offering higher dividends for the past three years. nw
