Painter Kim Chong-hak holds exhibition at Johyon Gallery in Haeundae Beach


Veteran painter Kim Chong-hak, popularly known for his painting of wild flowers, opened his solo exhibition at Johyon Gallery's new exhibition hall on the 2nd floor of the new building completed recently in Haeundae Beach, Busan.
On display at the spacious exhibition facility are some 30 pieces of oil paintings, large and small, depicting colorful wild flowers that the painter discovered in Sorak Mountain, Gangwon Province, where his studio is located.
The solo exhibition, an event to open the new 4 story building the gallery built, is the third exhibition to be held at Johyon Gallery. Painter Kim had been an abstract painter in the line of Informal school of painting. But he retired to Sorak Mountain in 1979 and discovered and amazed by the numerous wild flowers deep inside the mountain and started to paint them for over 20 years. In the process, he created his own painting style.
Curator of the gallery Kim Ae-ryong called Kim's work,"Fantasia of Nature"or "Paradise of Paintings,"moved by the painter's endearment for nature. nw
