Aims at making the mechanical and metal industries value-added businesses A center for industrializing mechatronics parts has been dedicated within the Daegu Machinery Institute of Components & Mechanics Foundation.
The ceremony marking the dedication of the center for industrial mechatronics parts was held on May 7 at Daegu Machinery Institute of Components & Mechanics Foundation with about 200 people from several walks of life in the provincial city participating. Those in attendance included the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy Kim Young-ju, Daegu Metropolitan City Mayor Kim Beom-il, lawmakers hailing from North Gyeongsang Province and city councilors.
Mechatronics refers to an inter-disciplinary combination of mechanic engineering and electronics engineering.
The project cost 10 billion won, including 5 billion won from national coffers. The newly built center is an advanced research center with four ground floors and one basement floor - 9,633 sq. meters (2,914 pyeong) in floor space.
The center is outfitted with such facilities as a radio anechoic chamber, a reliability appreciation lab and a noise & vibration lab in a move to provide mechanical companies in the neighborhood areas with such support services as technological development, performance testing and product development related to mechatronics.
Stressing the significance of securing high-tech, the key to industrial competitiveness, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy Kim expressed hope in his speech during the dedication ceremony the center will serve as a driving force to upgrade the mechanical and metal industries as well as our nation's technological levels related to mechatronics. nw
