After inventing the first ever safety elevator, Elisha Graves Otis founded the company under the name Otis Elevator Company in 1853. Otis elevators have played an integral part in the modernization and development of our metropolitan society. It's elevators are seen in every well-known building and structure around the globe, including the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Tienanmen Square in Beijing, and Incheon International Airport in Korea and they will be installed in the Burj Dubai, the world's tallest building when it is completed in 2009. Otis also developed the "Gen2"elevator the first elevator with a flat-belt in the world .
Otis Elevator Korea is the number one elevator company in Korea. It has recently introduced the "IRIS Elevator"to strengthen its position as the first choice elevator brand in the country.
The IRIS Elevator is an environmentally-friendly and energy-saving upgraded lift to be installed in apartments, offices and other buildings, Otis is aiming at the mid-to-low rise elevator market, taking up 95 percent of elevators sold in the country and overseas elevator markets all over the world including China, Southeast Asia and Central and South America.
The IRIS Elevator is a new elevator concept with a permanent magnetic (PM) motor which offers superior machine performance and higher efficiency.
This used to be used in the most modern and high speed elevators, but has now become an affordable and low-cost alternative.
Developed with in OTIS'worldwide engineering centers, IRIS gives comfort and safety to passengers with smooth starts and stops, saving electricity and is well designed. Otis developed the new elevator in 2005 and it has sold over 4,000 units in overseas markets in 2006 including China. "IRIS"is quickly gaining recognition for its outstanding quality and high technology. The new IRIS PM machine product line helps add to Otis"impressive product line known for its high safety standard and also being environmental friendly.
In September of last year, Otis was awarded the Green Management Grand Award for its Gen2 machineroomless elevator. The award is given to companies that produce environmentally-friendly products and these companies are entitled to attach the green product certificates to their products, which will help Otis to further cement its brand image.
Otis elevators can be seen at Incheon International Airport, with Otis winning the international bidding held by the Incheon Airport Authority to purchase elevators, escalators, and moving walkways to be installed at the airport. Otis will supply 55 elevators, 75 escalators, and 39 moving walk ways totaling some 169 units.
The company will make sure that the design for the products are top-level and safe so that the airport will be nothing short one of the world's top airports. The airport already 124 Otis elevators, 136 escalators, and 46 moving walkways installed for the convenience of passengers using the gateway to Korea.
With Otis elevators installed at the airport, Korea's gateway and hub in Northeast Asia, Otis products have been gaining recognition from passengers inbound and outbound, strengthening its image as a global company.
Otis will also work hard to improve its services to customers declaring that it is a service-oriented company, which is not seen in the elevator industry and shows the company's intention to be the recognized leader in service excellence among all companies not just elevator companies.
Such a move by the company is deemed natural because elevators are part of every-day life requiring the company to provide "moving"service to its customers.
As the first step for carrying on with such move, the company has decided to strengthen its repair and maintenance work and is expanding Otis Maintenance contracts. The company has been providing maintenance and repair services under contract, not limited to just making check ups on its equipment, which is a product popular in advanced countries.
Otis Korea plans to further solidify its leading position in Korea and leap to being a global enterprise by making consistent efforts to segregate its service for customer satisfaction and superb and advanced technology and quality of its products.
Otis Elevator has been pursuing service excellence, safety, ethics and manpower training as its management goals to provide top-quality products and services. nw
