Korea District Heating Corp. said the company has been formally notified from the United Nations that its Clean Development Mechanism system business has been registered with the world organization on April 23. The new energy cleaning system is projected to generate some 6 trillion won in profit in the next 10 years. Under the system, the company's Gangnam branch switched its boiler fuel from LSWR oil to LNG gas.
The company developed the Fuel Switching-CDM on advises from the Ecofrontier Co., which is significant in that it's the business area not related to new energy. It's the 12th domestic businesses to be registered with the U.N.
The company said the development of the new energy switching system will be completed in November this year at the cost of 19 billion won.
The system will save 35,000 tons of Co2 in greenhouse gas and will bring some 6 trillion won in profit when it is sold to the general public in the next 10 years, company officials said.
This will make the KDHC to contribute to the well-being of the society with an economical supply of district heating, expanding the supply of collective energy and the national energy policies, doing full its duty as a government-run corporation.
They said KDHC will also contribute to the nation's environment policies and honoring the U.N. Climate Change Treaty by applying the CDM system to new and reusable energy area with its projects to develop solar energy, and biomass, LFG and garbage incinerators.

The project pays 50,000 won per household if a household saves more than 10 percent in energy uses during the winter season from December to February. The program began in 2004.
The company said it plans to continue to hold events that will create a boom in energy savings across the country by drawing the attention of the people to the program geared to improve consumer culture.
