Builder of Longest Highway Tunnel

Kolon Engineering and Construction Co., since its launch in 1960, has been engaged in undertaking numerous construction projects at home and abroad including plants, social overhead capital projects, environment, housing, civil, and construction, with differentiated technological prowess.
The company has built the nation's longest tunnel some 4,520 meters long Jukyeong Tunnel, Kolon Tower in Gwacheon, Bundang Trapolis, the country's first hotel-type apartments, the New Airport Expressway, and other SOC projects and technology-intensive projects such as the construction of 60,000 residential houses.
The Central Highway, built by a consortium led by Kolon Construction, is said to have spurred the development of the inland areas of the nation's Eastern regions to bring the country a balanced development from region to region.
The construction projects involved piercing rough mountainous areas to link valleys with valleys, building bridges and tunnels with different structures taking up more than 20 percent of the projects, much more than other project segments.
The Jukyeong Tunnel, some 4,520 meters long, which pierced through 689 meters high Jukyeong Hill is a special example of the hard projects that Kolon has undertaken. The tunnel cut the travel time between the two sides by 40 minutes, taking only 10 minutes to drive through the tunnel. This is why the tunnel is said to have made a great contribution to the cultural exchange between North Chungcheong Province and North Gyeongsang Province and reduced logistics costs in the inland regions in the central part of the country.
The company won the Industrial Merit Silver Medal for its exemplary work on the tunnel from the government for the excellent job it has done for building the tunnel, using various modern construction methods such as NATM and TSP. in addition to using such modern construction equipment as TBM excavator.
