Kumho E&C has grown to be one of the top 10 engineering and construction service providers in Korea during the past 40 years. It has been recognized for its superb technology prowess in the construction industry, ranging from civil engineering, architecture, airport & logistic facilities and SOC projects to environmental business - with its own unique technologies, including the KIDEA engineering method - to housing.
Kumho E&C have played leading roles in the construction of the City Airport Terminal, ASEM Convention Center, Incheon International Airport, new Gwangju City Hall, the eighth section of Daejeon-Jinju Expressway and Cheonan-Nonsan Expressway and Seoul Outer Ring Expressway. In March 2002, the company became the winner of the first Janyeongsil Award in recognition for the development of the KIDEA engineering method for the construction of domestic sewage treatment facilities, cutting a conspicuous figure in the environment field. Kumho E&C also gained recognition in architectural construction as the New Gwangju City Hall and Jeollabuk-do provincial government headquarters, built by the contractor in 2004 and 2006, won Korea's Architecture Culture Grand Prize.
Kumho E&C is entering a second boom period as it has secured a sound financial stature after undergoing the restructuring process during the Asian financial crisis and raised the ratio of operating profit to total assets by turning to a selection of profit-making projects. The contractor has seen its debt ratio decline from 370 percent in 2002 to a range of 150 percent in 2004. Kumho E&C registered a whopping 410.44 percent share price growth during 2004, the highest among the domestic enlisted companies. It was listed among the top ten construction performance capability ranking for the second straight year in 2006, establishing itself as the top ten contractor. In particular, Kumho E&C launched the Asiana Plaza Project in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, the first overseas project in 22 years, as part of its efforts to explore new profit models. The company is now striving to proactively undertake overseas projects in such regions as Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
