ROTREX 2007 Shows Key
Phases of Road Construction
from Tech to Parking Facilities

Guidelines for construction of eco-friendly roads being applied to new national trunk road projects

Vice Chairman Cho Kun-chang of the Korea Road and Transportation Association is very busy these days as the association is preparing to hold the International Road and Traffic Expo 2007 from May 9-12 at KINTEX in Ilsan, north of Seoul.
How is the association preparing for the largest such event in the world?
The expo will display key phases of road construction including maintenance of roads, road signs, and traffic safety installations, high-tech transportation systems, public transportation and parking facilities and more. During the first ROTREX in 2005, some 230 foreign buyers from 29 countries came to the event expressing a high world interest in the international event held in Korea. The publicity campaign overseas did lot to bring the world's attention to the event in 2005.
The association participated in a number of road and transportation events globally last year in an effort to publicize the event. The association participated in the 2006 Abu Dhabi Road and Transportation Expo (Roadex 2006) held from March 12-15 in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates,
Intertraffic 2006 held from April 4-7 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and the 2006 International Logistics and Transportation event held in Busan from Nov. 6-11 to promote the KINTEX event this time with various promotional activities at those international events.
The association has also dispatched some 2,000 copies of publicity material to organizations and companies involved in the road and transportation industry and has conducted marketing campaigns for the event at KINTEX in foreign countries where KOTRA maintains its branches, totaling some 50 countries and 94 companies. The association signed agency contracts with ECM in Germany and CCPIT in China to have them work conduct publicity campaigns in Germany and China for the expo. The association has been doing all it can to make the event truly an international event.
Would you like to say something to the members of the association and people concerned with transportation?
First of all, I would like to say thanks to members of the association and related organizations for their support and interest in the association. The association is for its members as it provides information on road and transportation at home and abroad. The KRTA has also been doing research on road construction technology and maintenance in addition to the revision of design standards, specifications on road tenets and roads based on government revision standards. But, not satisfied with what we have achieved, we feel that we have to show our continuous development and in this sense, the ROTREX 2007 is a good example of our efforts. The event follows the first one in 2005, which is expected to stimulate the upgrading of road construction technologies at home and show the world so that they can find foreign markets, which will lead to the development of road and transportation sectors in the country. The association also hopes the international event will ultimately sharpen national competitive strength. nw
