Events at ROTREX 2007
The supplementary events included the Heads of Road Authorities (HORA), the Road Engineering Association of Asia and Australasia (REAAA) Board of Directors Meeting, the Policy Debate on Road and Transportation and the Road Traffic Safety Experience Exhibition, among other diverse events.
The 6th HORA Meeting
The 6th HORA Meeting began on May 9 for two days with the opening of the ROTREX in Room 308 of KINTEX with the theme of Disaster Risk Management by Countries. Each member country presented cases of disasters experienced and discussions were made on those samples.
Invitations were issued to construction and transportation ministers of 15 countries including the Philippines and Malaysia. In addition, 66 leaders of road construction sectors in 40 countries were invited to attend the meeting.
REAAA Board of Directors Meeting:
The 83rd REAAA Board of Directors Meeting took place from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. on May 10 with keynote speeches by cabinet ministers and construction/ transportation ministers invited to the meeting. At the preliminary meeting and 5 subcommittee meetings, there were reports on their meetings. Branch offices in Australia, Brunei, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, and the Philippines made reports on their activities. The meeting decided on the schedule of the meeting of road leaders and the board of directors meeting. The entire 29-member board from 11 countries attended the meeting.
Policy Debate on Road/ Transportation and Announcement on Research Results
President Son Hak-lai of the Korea Expressway Corp. presided over the policy discussion meeting with the main theme being "Future Technology Development and the Direction Changes of National Trunk Networks."The meeting took place in Rooms 306-307 on May 9.
Four theme presentations were followed by a discussion session which was presided over by Chairman Lee Yong-jae of the Korean Society of Transportation. The session dealt with the subject of the development of roads and transportation.
In the meantime, inside the exhibition hall, posters were displayed showing research results of some 30 traffic subjects and testing equipment, and other special high-tech equipment. There was also a on-site technology counseling by experts in various areas.
Traffic Safety Experience Exhibition
During the four-day period of the ROTREX 2007 from May 9-12, there were exhibitions on traffic safety at large education facilities four times a day for some 3,000 children and their parents. The Citizens Coalition for Safety has been engaged in various activities to drum up transportation safety by issuing brochures and other matters to help children and their parents be aware of traffic safety throughout the country.
The exhibition showed 10 types of traffic accidents that occur most often to children. Children are given a chance to ride motor bikes and experience for themselves how to avoid traffic accidents and prevent them. nw
