Samyang Corp. CEO and Hanwha Corp. vice chairman receive an industrial order
Samyang Corp. CEO Kim Yoon and Rhee Soon-jong, vice chairman of Hanwha Corp. have been awarded with the coveted Order of Industrial Service, Gold Tower in recognition of their contribution to commerce and industry communities during the 34th Commerce and Industry Day anniversary.
About 1,200 people from commerce and industry communities in Korea and abroad as well as government officials participated in a ceremony marking the 34th Commerce and Industry Day at the auditorium of COEX in southern Seoul March 21. Also on hand were Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy Kim Young-ju, KCCI Chairman KCCI Chairman Sohn Kyung-shik and Korea International Trade Association Chairman Lee Hee-beom, Cho Kun-ho, executive vice chairman of the Federation of Korean Industry, and Kim Ki-moon, chairman of Korean Federation of Small and Medium Business.
In his congratulatory speech, MOCIE Minister Kim urged those in commerce and industry communities to focus on the development of next-generation growth engines,
saying, "Now is an essential time for those in the commerce and industry communities to be armed with an unswerving entrepreneurship that has made Korea what it is today."Minister Kim also said the government plans to increase from current 198 to 300 by the year 300 the number of mid-size core parts and raw materials makers with a global competitive edge it will cultivate. He said his ministry will concentrate on providing support to the development of top 120 core raw material technologies.
KCCI Chairman Sohn said in his speech. "The foremost thing facing the Korean economy is to turn around the sluggish economy by invigorating investments and creating jobs and secure sustainable growth potential."To this end, he called for those in the commerce and industry communities to explore new business areas and profit models by arming themselves with creativity and entrepreneurships without fear of failures and employees to recognize the stark reality ¡ª economic difficulties ¡ª and join forces in co-prosperous labor-management ties by ensuring dialogue and compromise rather than resorting to struggles and conflicts, Chairman Sohn said.
Samyang Corp. CEO Kim and Hanwha Corp. Vice Chairman Lee were among the 206 winners who grabbed diverse government awards during the anniversary event. Samyang Corp. Chairman Kim has been credited with having achieved a more than 10 percent growth rate through management innovations and having spearheaded corporate social responsibility by exploring such new markets as cancer treatment medicines. Hanwha Corp. Vice Chairman Lee has been praised for having succeeded in localizing a gas generator for automobile air bag and having signed an agreement on a helicopter improvement project. The Order of Industrial Service, Silver Tower went to GDS CEO Yoo Young-choon and Yuhan Corp. President Cha Jung-keon in recognition of the development of digital MLB and flexible PCS, and a gastrointestinal ulcer treatment drug, Korea's first licensed new medicine.
Sambo Corrugated Board Co. CEO Ryu Chong-woo and Lotte Engineering & Machinery MFG CEO Cyn Young-jae were awarded with the Order of Industrial Service, Iron Tower and the Order of Industrial Service, Stone Tower, respectively. nw
