For Korea's Sustainable
Economic Development

Leadership for growth and reform nurtured by creative destruction is the most important requirement for leaders in the 21st century. We are already in 15 years in business since NewsWorld first came off the presss in 1992.. Back then, we recalled that Korean leaders had begun to chant the slogan "Lets'go for it ¡ª achieving the target of raising the per capita national income to $20,000 and joining the rank of advanced countries."I launched NewsWorld concerned with thoughts that how our country would be able to achieve $40,000 in per capita income and be counted among the G-7 countries surviving as people recognized in the world. I have been hoping that I would be able to publish a good magazine by core talents and publicize it in the world market of 5 billion people so that articles in the magazine would get the attention of the people around the world. This would help sell Korean products, raising the value of Korean culture and arts, attracting many foreign tourists to Korea to see what Korea is like.
The difficulties I encountered these years have turned into good wishes like the music of Mozart for the sake of my big dream. I thanked all those who helped us each and every one of them. I persuaded them that Korea should achieve $40,000 in per capita income and be an advanced country some times with tears and some times with smiles.
Right now, we need the leadership which will lead sustainable growth to create a dynamic Korea in a creative way with the power of thinking and vision.
Korea is well recognized to have a strong manufacturing foundation in such industries as shipbuilding, and IT sectors. In particular, Korean companies, including those in the electricity and auto industries, have been scurrying to step up their overseas presence with a sense of crisis and determination.
The central bank recently released a report that Korea's per capita Gross National Income (GNI), which stood at $18,372 at the end of 2006, is projected to surpass the $20,000 mark year-end. In that case, the nation would shatter the $20,000 barrier in 12 years after topping $10,000 in 1995.
The 2007 Seoul Motor Show is scheduled to open April 5-15 at KINTEX in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province, just outside Seoul. The motor show should be developed into one of the G3 motor shows in the world and this will be the only way to pave the way for the Korean auto industry to develop into one of the Global Big Three.
At the same time, the 2007 ASTA IDE is to open on Jeju Island. We expect the warmth of Jeju people and the pristine beauty of the island would make their island loved by all citizens of the world as one of the most beautiful tourist spots in the world like Bali, Guam and Saipan. I hope that more foreign tourists would visit Jeju and enjoy what it has to offer and return with good memories so that they would want to return to the island attracted by fun and sights of the island. nw
