A Force in Nuke Fuel Industry

KNFC aims to be top nuke fuel supplier sharpening its technologies with a long-term vision

The Korea Nuclear Fuel Co. is determined to supply all nuclear fuel to the 20 nuclear power plants in the country without a hitch this year as part of its plan to become a world-class nuclear fuel company through its management reform and the development of technologies for the production of nuclear fuel, the company said in its recent new year plan announcement.
"It's our company's major and basic responsibility to produce 100 percent of nuclear fuel required in the country this year and supply them to the 20 nuke power plants in operation across the country,"said company officials.
The company said it will speed up the development of refined nuclear power plant fuel, ACE7, this year to meet the target date set for its commercial use scheduled for some time next year. It said PLUS7 fuel supplied by the company has received very good reactions from the nuclear power community when it was used in a nuclear power plant in the country.
The company has been working on a special type nuclear fuel developed with its own technology since 2005 and the development of X-Gen code, which can be exported, on schedule.
KNFC's expansion plan has been going on smoothly with the construction of a zirconium alloy tube plant expected to be completed in at the end of this year, which will be test-run in the second half of next year. The construction of ceramic installation expansion has seen so much progress that it is about to be completed soon.
For these efforts, the company won the award for excellent quality competitiveness for six years in a row, in addition to winning the Grand Award for Technology Innovation Management, the Korea Productivity Grand Award, and the Korea Idea Management Grand Award. The company won the 100 Select Excellent Development Results mention for its ACE7 refined fuel.
The company projects that some nuke power plants with 1 million kW capacity each will be built in the next 10 years. The company also anticipates many changes to occur in the nuclear power generation industry around the world triggered by such international trade mechanisms as free trade agreement (FTA). FTA talks between Korea and the U.S. are likely to set off many changes when it is concluded, which may leave KNFC as just another manufacturer of nuke fuels. The company feels it should acquire basic technologies for nuke fuel before the FTA takes effect.
The company has the draft of a long-term vision for its management strategies for the next two decades, made up following a number of workshops, and hearings held by its employees. It will be officially announced in the first half of this year.
Everyone in society now knows that a company has to reform for its survival in the tough world of competition and KNFC is no exception. Every person in the company is aware that change and reform should be made to enhance its international competitive edge. The company should be armed with progressive and open approaches for its domination of the nuclear fuel industry in the world and become a first-class energy company that creates happiness with the entire company putting in long hours to reach that goal.
Management of the company will try to make the labor union cooperative based on mature and rational thoughts for joint development sharing thoughts that management and the union is one joint body to produce a win-win strategy.
Both management and union will join hands together with kindness and love for each other to build a win-win human relationship.
They will try to change the atmosphere at the company by throwing away various factional divisions such as alumni, and departmental cliques and other sectionalism that shatter cohesion of the company and try to build human relations with warmth and smooth attitudes and praises for each other to change the atmosphere at the company.

President Kim Seok-won of KFSB: President Kim Seok-won said he will see that business support for member banks will be expanded and KFSB will be at the forefront of the move to improve the customer awareness and trust in member savings banks across the country during his announcement of the KFSB's plans for 2007.
He went on to say that the KFSB will play the role of the central bank for member savings banks, improve management support, provide education and training to employees of member banks and upgrade marketing efforts to public confidence in the savings banking industry.
